I heard once that homeschooling is God's way of training two generations at once. So true! I know that He uses our homeschooling as a way to teach me many things... and patience being one of them.
My oldest son is somewhat of a "late bloomer." He does things in his own timing and way. I suppose it is more of God's timing, but you know what I mean, right? He has always been more on the cautious side, a little fearful of new situations, etc. However, once he gets it... he gets it!
Take math, for example. There were many months where I fretted over his seemingly inability to memorize simple addition facts. I tried everything I could think of to help him. I read lots of homeschooling sites looking for answers. I prayed. I cried. I got frustrated. I gave up. I started over.
And then one day... he just "got it." It suddenly clicked with him and he has been moving ahead steadily in math ever since! Who knew? Not me!
But God knew! He knew that my son would understand it... but it was in His timing and not my own.
Today, we all went to the park as a family to ride bikes. I rode along side this same son with tears in my eyes as I watched him ride his bike. You see, he is nine.... and he just started riding a bike without training wheels a few days ago. Now, he doesn't want to stop riding his bike!
God is forever teaching me that when I have a worry... when I wonder how things will work out... that I need to be patient for His timing. As Psalms 37:7 says, I need to "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him..."
So what about you? Has God used homeschooling to teach you patience? Be sure to leave a comment if you share on your blog!
Blessings,
~LISA
