Heartfelt Homeschool
Veteran's Day
I am so incredibly grateful to all of those who have served in our military to protect the freedoms that we have in this country of ours!
Please be sure to stop over at Kathy's Blog and down on her sidebar is a beautiful music video to honor our American heroes. It brought tears to my eyes!
Also, you can check out THIS LINK to get Veteran's Day history, printables, word searches and more to use in your homeschool.
God bless you & and if your family is one who has served our country, I humbly thank you!

Fall Holiday Crafts
A Unit Study on St. Patrick
Free Resource for Unit Studies
I discovered this website today - if you like to use unit studies or have always wanted to try one, here is a resource for Free Homeschooling Unit Studies Online!
We don't exclusively do unit studies in our homeschool. It would overwhelm me to do that! However, at the beginning of the school year, I ask each child to tell me two to three things that they are interested in learning more about. Then, I pick ONE of their choices, depending on what I can find, etc., and we then do a one-month unit study on that particular topic.
For example, Princess wanted to learn more about birds - we just finished our month-long unit study on that. At the beginning of the year, we did a mini unit study on dinosaurs, which was CuddleBug's choice. We still need to do DrummerBoy's choice; however, writing this entry has reminded me that I need to look up what that was! I have forgotten! LOL
Anyway... blessings on your school day today!

Go to Homeschool Views. She has a quiz to help you determine your child's learning style, one to help you discover your learning style, and also a quiz to help you determine your particular teaching style.

Earthquake Website
Well, for those who are interested, I discovered what I felt last night WAS in fact an earthquake. I found a helpful website that will tell you about any earthquake activity, including the epicenter, the magnitude, etc. This particular link will tell you about earthquakes in California or Nevada: http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/latest.htm; however, if you are curious, you can click on a link on the upper left-hand side where it says "world" and see where there have been earthquakes, well, all over the world! hee hee
Actually, the more I browse the website, I see it also has a "Kids Only" section, as well as a "science & technology" section. It might be a good site to bookmark if you ever were going to study earthquakes!
Anyhoo... After I discovered that I was not hearing and feeling things and it actually was an earthquake, I was able to go lie down and go to sleep. Of course, it was about 1am by that time! |
