Apr. 2, 2007 - New curriculum issues
I have been considering what to do for homeschool classes for next year. It is always exciting to me, a chance to evaluate what we`ve used this year and compare it to what else peeks my interest for the children.
I am seriously considering Sonlight for the upcoming year. We looked at it last year and decided against it due to cost and the fact that it didn`t seem like we`d be able to teach many classes to the children together.
We will have for Sept. 2007 a 6th grader at avg. reading level, a 3rd grader at avg.reading level, and a 1st grader reading 3 letter words. If anyone has used this curriculum, with similar grade levels, please send a comment of advice.

I am working on a sonlight post - we have used the Pre-K and K Core and will be buying Core 1 in a couple days! Another friend had asked me to post about some of the changes they are doing. I'm typing up a draft and hope to submit it to my blog tomorrow, keep checking and feel free to ask me any questions you have about it!
nice to meet you!

I love Sonlight. We used it K-2. This year, I just knew things were going to be crazy with me working from home more, so I didn't order a core. We have been reading some of the books though. It is not the same, but still good. I really like the books they recommend. I hope to do another core when things settle down. Maybe this coming year! Sonlight has a lot of offer and I feel like our school years in the past while using Sonlight have been richer.
Hope that helps.

I am praying that you are able to come to a decision soon. I have been using Sonlight for 5 years now and love it. If you have any questions ... please feel free to contact me. I also have lots of info on my blog about Sonlight.

My oldest is only 6, and this is our first year doing Sonlight, but I really love it. I have compared a lot of other programs, before and after starting with Sonlight, and I haven't found anything yet that I like better for any of the areas they offer (except Bible, we'll be using Summit Ministries curriculum starting this fall).
It is a lot of reading out loud, but we were already doing that, so it's not cumbersome to me, and once the kids are older (like yours), they can do some of that on their own. Some books may or may not fall under the blanket of what you consider appropriate for your kids, but they are pretty up front about that, and you can just skip this or that. It's really easy to conform to what your needs/wants are.
HTH, anyway.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and welcome to HSB!

I am working on how to set this up to work for you an was trying to figure out who is a boy and who is a girl. That tends to effect how we can combine them do to girls typically having a larger attention span. I am coming across a few plans but .... need more info.
