Mom Thoughts

• May. 11, 2009 - House Pets

Posted By G'maLiz
House pets get a lot of time on blogs and show-n-tell and even have laws that protect them.  I wanted to blog about my thoughts on house pets.

We'll start with reptiles and rodents.  Personally, I don't want anything that God cursed living in my house - that would be reptiles.  They are cursed in Genesis and called them "detestable" in Leviticus. That says it all for me.  OK, then, what about rodents.  Well, they make good fodder for the reptiles (snakes) that you might have living with you, and a fun toy for the felines, but that's about it.  I supposed they might be fun to watch running around in one of those little cages reminding us of what a rat race really is, but I can visit the pet store to see that show.  There is nothing cuddly about reptiles and rodents.

How about cats, since I mentioned them above.  AH! Cats, the number two favorite house pet. I have always been puzzled by the allure of a cat in the house.  Cats do not care if you like them or not.  They are narcissistic.  Oh, they love being petted, but they would love it the same if it were a robot doing it.  They are cute to watch, especially kittens, but ragged couch arms, hair on the countertops  and dining room chair pads - and the litterbox, nope!  I do like a cat or two outside to keep down the rodents. I have three at the moment.

Pigs, now that's interesting.  Pot bellied pigs are they cute and cuddly?  No!  Actually, "cute" is in the eye of the beholder.  I think they are kind of cute in an ugly kind of way.  Stick a red bow on it and take a family portrait.  I have always wondered about the toilet habits of a house pig.  Do you train them to a litter box, or do they oink at the door to go out?  I hear that people eat pork.  It could be convenient to have your food source living in the house with you.

Birds in a cage.  I've had a canary.  Other than the seeds all over the floor, it was a pleasant experience.  He sang and sang and when you didn't want to hear him, you could cove the cage with a sheet and he would stop.  They don't love you, but they are pleasant.  I think I might like to have a canary again.

Fish.  I've had fish. A lot of work.  Nice to watch.  Not worth the trouble.

Let's talk dogs.  Now, dogs are cute and cuddly.  Dogs are loyal (unlike cats) and they actually love people and have feelings.  They can be trained and house trained - to 'go' outside.  Dogs are my first choice for a pet.  I have had a couple of house dogs, that were also yard dogs that came home smelling like they had a lot of fun rolling on one of those dead rodents.  Even with that, a dog will greet you at the door, and if you are feeling unloved, you always know your dog loves you.  Yeah, they will lick you in the face- yuch!  Dogs want to be with you wherever you go.  They are not considered "man's best friend," for nothing.  I like dogs.  I miss my last two dogs very much.  I have not decided to get another pet at this time, but I'm sure, when I do,  it will be a dog.

I know that this post sounds like a 5th grade essay.  That's OK.  I never said I knew more than a fifth grader. :)

• Apr. 19, 2009 - Read the Constitution Day! April 20th

Posted By G'maLiz
Preserve. Protect. Defend.

*** CELEBRATE "READ THE CONSTITUTION DAY" MONDAY, APRIL 20TH! ***

We've declared April 20th "Read the Constitution Day". To commemorate the occasion, we're asking every one of you to Print and Mail a copy of the US Constitution to those that need it most: our elected and selected representatives in Federal government! Just follow these four simple steps:

1. Print five copies
of the Constitution. A handy, 6 page version can be found here: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/statutes/usconst.pdf.

2. Put the copies in 5 envelopes. On the back of each
envelope, write "PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND DEFEND." They are some of the most important words in the President's oath of office.

3. On MONDAY, APRIL 20TH, mail one each to
your U.S. House Representative, your Senators, the President, and the Supreme Court:

THE PRESIDENT
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

THE SUPREME COURT
Public Information Officer
Supreme Court of the United States
Washington, DC 20543

YOUR SENATORS
http://senate.gov/general/contact_in...nators_cfm.cfm

YOUR REPRESENTATIVE
https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

4. Forward this to like-minded friends and neighbors and encourage them to do the same.

That's it! 5 envelopes, 5 stamps, 30 pages, and 1 hour of your time. Imagine the impact if thousands of us do this "one little thing." We want the entire federal government to know that there are thousands of Americans concerned for the integrity of our Constitution. They need to know we're paying attention to them, and we expect them to return the respect.

Remember - keep it simple and respectful: Just the
Constitution and "PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND DEFEND

Isn't it ironic that there is soooo much "Easter" stuff at Walmart, but they sell "holiday" trees at Christmas?

• Apr. 9, 2009 - Fairie Tale Theatre - I love Youtube

Posted By G'maLiz
I hesitate to post this, but I trust that each parent will view these as to content before you allow your children to view them. These are not your average sweet fairy tales and are probably not appropriate for very young children.  I also know that some do not "do" mythical, evil characters, goblins, witches or fantasy, you will just have to look at the list and choose ones you like. This is NOT Disney.

I was looking on the net for "Swan Lake" story, and thought about youtube again.  I did find several versions on youtube.  We are studying Swan Lake, the ballet right now in MFW.

Anyway, while I was browsing, I ran across the old Faire Tale Theatre with Shelley Duvall and many actors you will know (but they are much younger). Many of you were not old enough to remember them.  I used to love to watch these, but I remember some were a little scary and the characters act more like you would think they would. I don't think they will be appropriate for very young children.  Your older children and teens might like them, but don't blame me if you run across one that you don't like.  View them first!

They are not your average, wholesome, revised for political correctness or child sensabilities. So.....there you have it. I am an adult, and I like them.

They all start out...
"Hello, My name is Shelley Duvall....Fairie Tale Theatre."

Just type in FTT and the name of the fairy tale and click on pt 1.  You can get the rest of the parts from there.  I made a playlist with all of the part 1's so I can watch them when I want. I added links to a couple so you could sample them.  If you leave it on the movie when the part is over, I think it automatically goes to pt 2, etc.

• Jan. 21, 2009 - The Christian Freedom of Choice Act

Posted By G'maLiz

It's time for the Christian to start exercising their Freedom of Choice by boycotting Krispy Creme as they "celebrated the Freedom of Choice and the inauguration" yesterday by giving away donuts. Not just celebrating the inauguration, but celebrated the "Freedom of Choice."  They are part of the agenda that is proabortion.

It is also time to exercise our Freedom of Choice by boycotting Campbell's Soup.  Their "Labels for Education" program supports The Advocate, which is a publication that supports same-sex marriage, with advertising.

It's time for Christians to act on their (God's) principles and start putting their money where their mouths are.  Money talks. Too long we have said, "Isn't that terrible," but continue to support these companies and, "Somebody ought to do something about it," without writing letters ourselves.

I am not willing to let anti-God agendas just sweep this nation without a fight.  And as of today, the fight will be a David and Goliath fight.

LATER EDIT: Apparently the Krispy Creme "Freedom of Choice" was a Faux Pax. http://www.all.org/article.php?id=11757

• Jan. 10, 2009 - Screaming my guts out at a 2nd grade basketball game!

Posted By G'maLiz
I'm glad I don't have a picture of me!  LOL!  Today was my grandson's first game with the Upwards program at our church.  It was as fun as watching high school ball.  In the young ages, they don't call walking/traveling and they don't keep score (You know the parents do!).  It's like sandlot baseball.  Everybody plays. Builds confidence. Sometimes they headed to the wrong goal, sometimes they ran the length with out dribbling at all.  It was a hoot!  I haven't had so much fun in a while.  If you have kids K-6, and you want them to play non-competitive sports, check out Upwards Basketball.  It is held in Baptist churches, but open to anyone.  It's great for homeschoolers that want to stay out of that competitive craziness.  Go to the link and find a league in your area.

• Dec. 29, 2008 - On rescuing America's children and our Christian heritage

Posted By G'maLiz

Onward, to rescue our future Christian soldiers.

The Exodus Mandate was first, now we have an even stronger mandate, A Call to Dunkirk. It's time to rescue our children.  It's time to indoctrinate Biblical Worldview into our children.  It's time to honor and obey God.  It's time to build an army of Christian soldiers. It's time to re-Christianize our culture. This is not about the three R's, anyone can teach those, it's about what God demanded of his people in Deut. 6:7.  Just what does "teach diligently" mean to you?

The government schools are Godless and pagan.  Christian families cannot counter 14,000 hours of humanistic training with 1 hour a week in Sunday School, especially when the textbooks have even been revised to change our Christian history and heritage and all references to the Christian faith are taboo.

I admit, that I do not know the best way to approach Christian families that have their children in the public school system that think "their" school is OK, or "their" kids are doing well.  It's a slow process, indoctrination.  Shame for mentioning Jesus in a paper will shut them up.  Oh, they won't talk about it to their parents, but they will get the message.  Who wants to be different or pointed out or ridiculed?  Taboo must be wrong, right?  That's the message.  Christianity, God, Religion, Jesus, Christmas, Prayer, Bible - all taboo.  Is that what you want your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to grow up believing?  Well, that is what they will learn.  It's similar to learning how to be invisible around the bullies.

I think it's time for people to stop straddling the fence with it comes to the training up of their children.  They ARE being trained.  They are NOT salt and light YET.  Hopefully, they will become salt and light with proper training.  Choose your trainers well.  The army of the Lord needs mighty men.

Please share this link  (article and video) with everyone you know.  The time is NOW!

• Dec. 2, 2008 - My Youngest Son's Wedding

Posted By G'maLiz

What!!!!  I didn't post a picture of my son's wedding?  I need to get my priorities straight!

It was a wonderful time.  They married in Arkansas at my husband's parents beautiful yard.  It was immediate family only except for my son's best friend and wife who were the photographers and my in-laws best friends who helped serve the dinner after the ceremony. They went to Acapulco for 7 days and when they returned, my son dropped his photo disk out of his pocket in a parking lot and someone ran over it.  He got a company to try to retrieve the pictures, but it coulcn't be done.  I guess they'll have their memories.  When they returned, we had a reception for church, family and friends at our church in Oklahoma.  It was a great time.
