Dec. 13, 2006 - Soda Fountain Science and the Newest Reader
It was such a beautiful day today that I told the kids if they hurried up and got their math, reading and spelling done with that they could have the rest of the day off to play outside. Of course they hurried up and got done A.S.A.P.
It was also nice enough for us to finally do our long awaited "Diet Coke and Mentos" experiment. We have seen this done on T.V. and it's really cool but it's a whole lot cooler when you see it in real life. Here is what we did:
*for some reason I cannot get my pictures to post. i will keep trying so check back*
I video taped the first time we did it and it was so awesome. It shot about 15 feet in the air. All the boys (and Shelby) where whooping and hollering their heads off. Boys like it when things explode. And they thought I was the greatest mom in the world for showing them how to do it! :)
In other news, Tyler (my 4y/o) has been showing lots of interest in reading. When all the other kids are doing their silent reading he grabs his reading book and sits down to "read" it too. I catch him trying to sound out words where ever he sees them, whether it's on a box of cereal or on a billboard sign while driving down the road. When he can't figure it out, he says "Mommy, what's that word say?" He already knows all his letters and letter sounds. He has also mastered beginning and ending sounds so I figured I would sit down and see if he could grasp the concept of reading. He did awesome! He can read just about any 3 letter word you give him. I am so proud of him!
