A humorous little something happened to me.
A few years back, our Governor met with homeschoolers while on the campaign trail. The very small local paper snapped a picture while I was standing near the Governor. I had my daughter on my hip. I figured it was the old candidate with children photo.
Last week, we met a candidate hoping to run for a US Senate seat. My husband had such a laugh, opening up the same paper: there we were, my daughter and myself again, both of us a few years older, but she still on my hip, next to another candidate.
Our state is so sparsely populated that if you wear a child at a political something and stand near a candidate while you talk an issue, your photo might end up being the one printed!
At least I can put this all to good use. The boys are getting a ton of good experiences, but for my daughter I can paste the pictures in her Baby Journals, and she can look back and think I was awfully cool, jet-setting in between home educating, housecleaning, and cooking dinner. Actually I will tell her it was her they were photographing!
Politics and I are about as good a match as a stork on ice-skates. I do go to meet these folks, however, to talk about homeschool freedom. Sometimes we help support a candidate running for our state Senate.
Once a few years ago I went into the Town Hall to fill out my ballot, and I got a real surprise: I was ON it! The sweet little old ladies who run the town Republican meeting nominated me for Justice of the Peace. Problem is, I was never told about it (wires were crossed). What a shock. I didnt even vote for myself. (My silly husband did.) I already had a job. Besides, in VT it would mean marrying gay couples! I can imagine the first lawsuit I got for refusing to do it. Anyway, my hands are full being justice of the peace in my living room.
It turns out the little old ladies thought I needed to get out more, so they nominated me. I told them if they want to do me a favor, they can come over and dust my dining room, so I can have even more time with my children.
Speaking of
have a good evening, everyone!
