I made this skirt for my daughter this morning. She picked the material. What is even better news (for my techie son)- I edited the photo and uploaded it by myself! I decided if I could learn all this weblog stuff, I could learn some in-house computer things to save his time, too.

I have pulled the material back to show you the slip underneath. She loves when her store dresses have an attached slip, or underskirt, so Im adding them to her skirts. (I got some satin and lace and made her regular lingerie slips, too. She loved mine. They are so cute in a toddler size!) Its just a simple elastic waistband.
She likes these simple, comfy, longer skirts. We can make them however we want, instead of searching stores (uselessly) or on-line forever. I didnt use a pattern with this, just measured her and made a plan. I had 2 minor errors to un-do this time: 1 accident (material stuck in machine) and 1 incredibly stupid (twisted elastic in waistband- before sewing, thankfully).
I started sewing a month before she was born. I didnt know I was having a girl; as a matter of fact, I called her Isaac the whole time I carried her. (P.S. Gollum, Al, Hawk and Will are not my childrens real names.) The first thing I made was a pretty maternity jumper. I havent worn it since- its kind of roomy! I knew I wanted to learn to sew, and God just put me on it before she came. I am thankful He did because it comes in very handy.
The sewing is not only a creative accomplishment. A wise woman told me, Its a good thing you are learning to sew. You wont be able to find any modest clothing for your daughter. Isnt that true?
Well, Im going to put this skirt on Precious now and she will go in the sandbox, to the barn, climb a tree, make some mud, carry rocks in it
I dont mind (especially since discovering OxyClean). A tear would be somewhat upsetting.
