Neat Homeschool Project
| I just wanted to let you all know about a a neat project some of my friends are doing on eHow. Several of them are going to be sending a doll around the country and taking the doll to different landmarks and places in their community. They will be taking pictures and writing about the adventures. The project can be followed at this link: http://www.squidoo.com/ehowdollysgrandadventure This would make a really good geography project. I will say, though, a couple of the people sometimes have a uhm... colorful sense of humor, so I would preview it before showing it to your kids. lol!!! Just in case. Dolly is about to arrive at her first destination which is Maine. This project will be going on through the winter and possibly into the spring. Each person will be adding their adventures as they do them. |

Swine Flu!
Posted By EclecticEducation
| Ugh! I've had a rough month! My 2 sons came down with the Swine Flu on Oct. 7th and I followed on Oct. 8th. My kids are doing ok. I am still fighting to get well. That is why I haven't written at all for so long. I've been very sick. I've seen the doctor's 4 times and had to get chest X-rays. They say if my cough is not better by the end of the week, I may be getting more X-rays. *sigh* I was having trouble eating and couldn't keep my food down. I lost a total of 12- 14 pounds and I was getting dehydrated. If I hadn't started keeping my food down over the weekend, my husband was suppose to take me to the hospital on Sunday night. Luckily, I started keeping it down!!! I think I am finally on the mend, but I still have a ways to go, so my post may be light for another week or two. Hopefully by then, I'll be doing better. |

All Sorts of Tidbits

Lots to talk about! First, my men (husband & son, 11 yrs) took a plane trip to Idaho to go elk hunting w/ friends. They were gone for 8 days. They didn't get anything, but they had a blast. While they were gone, Hannah had a horse show w/ Casey (below). He's been back from the trainer for about 3 months or so and they did fantastic. They won several ribbons as well as winning Grand Champion for 1 division and Reserve Grand Champion for another division. He was such a good boy & I'm so proud of all the hard work Hannah has put into training him. He's a 4 yr old palomino quarterhorse.
Here's a pic of my dh & Alyssa on the tractor. It was a day of moving hay & sawdust. Alyssa loves the tractor, the 4-wheeler-just about anything that moves. :)
In this pic below, Hannah was in a skit for 4-H teen council. She's sitting at the table in the middle. They did a great job & was very funny. It was also 4-H achievement night. She was givin an award for doing well at the state fair hippology tournament & won 33 dollars, too.
Here's Susanna (on the right) & her friend, Brooke. We've had a lot of extra kids here lately to play. These 2 love playing dolls & doing crafts.
Here's a craft that Susanna & I did together. We cut the branch out of a paperbag and glued real leaves to it. Then we covered the whole thing with modpodge. I totally love modpodge!
We've been doing lots of leaf art-I love Autumn! This weekend is a fun one. We had 3 extra kids here yesterday. 1 extra kid here today that is riding w/ Hannah & there's 2 parties that they're both going to tomorrow. One at the stable they help out at & another one for 4-H. Hannah helps with the therapeutic riding lessons at that stable.
Today Jonah was walking Alyssa in the stroller outside. It turned into a 4WD excursion thru mud puddles at high speeds. LOL She apparently loved it until the stroller tipped forward & she got covered in mud. Wish I had gotten a picture, but forgot in the melee of crying & mud flinging. LOL That's all for now! |

The Lady In The Third Row
There is what appears to be a very sweet lady who sits in about the third row at our church who ministers to me every single time I go to church. The interesting thing is that I have never spoken to her. I don't know that she has ever noticed me. But I notice her every time.
First you should know that I enjoy worshiping the Lord. I enjoy turning my eyes to the Heavens and imagine myself singing directly to the Lord as He sits on his throne receiving the praises of his children. I enjoy lifting my hands to Him as I sing. Often I will hold my hands with my palms turned up as if giving the Lord the praise directly from my being into His hands. I love to feel the washing of the Spirit over my body. I rarely leave a service where these things has not happened. I am moved by seeing the worship of those around me as well. I picture God accepting the praise of His people as we each worship him in our own way. There is one man who sings every word of every song simply with his eyes closed. There are those who lift their hands and pump out the beat of the music toward the Heavens. There are those who clap the beat (or attempt to clap the beat in my husband's case - heehee). I have been in many services where there have been those who have shouted and I have shouted many times myself. I have seen my own father on a number of occasions shout and laugh as the spirit of the Lord has washed over him. I have watched many tears fall with no other outward sign of worship.
Even as I type this and remember the things I have seen and heard my spirit is blessed. We all worship the Lord in our own ways. But I am one who is moved by the physical. I am not an inactive worshiper. For that reason I am drawn to those who are like me.
A number of months ago I noticed a lady in the section next to mine as she worshiped and sang. She is a small woman probably in her 80s who walks with a walker and stands stooped over. But every single time I look at her during our worship time she is smiling and singing every single word to every single song. It's important here to realize that we have a blended service. We sing a lot of very current popular worship songs of many contemporary artists as well as singing some of the older hymns. Now I'm not a hymn lover and often times find myself singing them out of rote memory without much passion. But this sweet woman holds to the same pattern for every song. Smiling, not missing a word and pounding out each beat with her fist in the air.
This sweet woman encourages me to be consistent in my worship and to sing my praise to God with each note. She blesses my spirit every service. I notice when she isn't there. I find myself thinking about her through the week. I'm sure my life would be blessed by interacting with her. However at this point my spirit is in touch with her spirit. And they are getting along famously. And I am learning a lot from the lady in the third row. |

You Will Be Blessed To Meet This Family
I have just been tremendously blessed reading about this family. They have adopted twenty two children in addition to their own three children because of their love for God. Check out this link where I first learned about this wonderful family. I can't wait to get their book.
Living By a Leap of Faith
UPDATE: The book looks great. I just received it in the mail. Can't wait to find a moment to read it. I would love to pass it on for a Thanksgiving gift to someone. Just leave a comment and I will draw a name from a hat on Nov. 20th. |

Soccer, Studies, College and Expectations
This is the last week of the soccer season for Lauren. Is it possible? Really? It seems like school was just starting and they had just started practicing. It just reminds me that time goes by so fast. Michael has a couple of more weeks of NYSA (city league) season. But tomorrow night will be the last game of the season for Lauren at school. I can't believe it. District tournaments begin over the weekend. Where is the SLOW DOWN button? I know we are all trying to figure out where it is located. If anyone finds it please share with the rest of us. I know the next time I blink they will both be heading to college. I will just try not to blink. I will have a staring contest with the calendar!! That's it!
Speaking of college - I need a checklist of things that we need to do and a timeline of when they need to be done. Both MIchael & Lauren are sophomores this year. I know there are things that we can be doing now to prepare so that we aren't bombarded their senior year. We have had a talk with them about bringing up their GPAs. Each of them have a list of colleges they are interested in. Does anyone have a checklist or suggestions on what we need to be doing when? I'm sure I could get some answers by checking with the school guidance counselor too. Will put that on my list of things to do.
Ron is traveling more than he is home this month. That's no fun for any of us. But we are managing. I was hoping to go on a trip with him the first week of November to East Tennessee. But it looks like I will be needed elsewhere at that time. I enjoying traveling with him. But it's hard for me to give myself "permission" to be away from the kids. I guess that goes along with being a full-time mom, doesn't it? SIGH
Bible study is plugging right along. Esther is taking a little more effort for me to get into at some points than some of her other studies. That one week that I blogged about was extremely challenging. But the last couple of weeks have moved a lot slower. I find myself having to really work at concentrating. I'm not sure if that is because I am too easily distracted or if it is the study itself. Hmmmmmmmm something to think about.
Well, there's really not much else to say. Besides, I hear the heating pad calling my name. It's been raining for 2 days. We all know how great of a pair rain and fibromyalgia makes. Another great part of my life. Sighhhhhhhhhhhh So, toodles for now! |
