A New Adventure for Our Family
We are in the process of adopting Kate from Latvia. She is a handicap girl who dresses herself with her teeth. She will be visiting us during Christmas. The orphanage doesn't want her any longer. They were putting her through training courses to learn "independent living" so they could ship her out. She is only ten years old. How do you live independently when you can only use your mouth to dress yourself, let alone use the bathroom? Her fate is certain death if she stays. The orphanage complained that she was too much for them to lift any longer. Our hearts hurt for Kate. If you would like to help us adopt her, send a check in care of Kate to :

Swine Flu!
Posted By EclecticEducation
| Ugh! I've had a rough month! My 2 sons came down with the Swine Flu on Oct. 7th and I followed on Oct. 8th. My kids are doing ok. I am still fighting to get well. That is why I haven't written at all for so long. I've been very sick. I've seen the doctor's 4 times and had to get chest X-rays. They say if my cough is not better by the end of the week, I may be getting more X-rays. *sigh* I was having trouble eating and couldn't keep my food down. I lost a total of 12- 14 pounds and I was getting dehydrated. If I hadn't started keeping my food down over the weekend, my husband was suppose to take me to the hospital on Sunday night. Luckily, I started keeping it down!!! I think I am finally on the mend, but I still have a ways to go, so my post may be light for another week or two. Hopefully by then, I'll be doing better. |

We Need Your Help
This is Kate. She is from Latvia. She really wants a family. We would like to be that family. Right now we have a thousand dollar scholarship. We only need 1500 more by the end of next week Friday. Kate is in a wheel chair as she has no ability to use her arms or legs. She does everything with her mouth, including dressing herself. Her chances to find a home are dismal in Latvia. But, we would like to bring into our home to love on her and care for her. Would you like to help her? God says that true religion is caring for the orphans and widows. We are hoping to do that by caring for this precious girl. Will you help us? Tax Deductible Donation

Reading on a Workout Ball
I was teaching Zach to read this morning. He kept missing certain letter sounds that I had previously quizzed him on, knowing he knew them. But,he was struggling. Then, I remembered Dr. Guffanti, from a home school conference, say that engaging more than one section of the brain at a time will ensure better results with learning. So, I got my workout ball out, one of many of his suggestions, and instantly Zach got all right. It worked!! Thank you,God, forDr. Guffanti

I actually teach the youngest ones, four and six, with the Rocket Phonics combined with most successful Spell to Write and Read, which has 95% of the language fall into all the rules. But, I have never found the great resources of ideas that Dr. Guffanti offers, not to mention all of his amazing ideas in helping the brain to understand things better. When you order his materials, you get a lot for the money. My favorite are all his downloads which I printed and then went to Office Max and bound with the same cover. It works beautifully with ideas that go great with the workbooks. In short, Guffanti and Spell to Write and Read, together makes for a great success for a variety of learning styles. I highly recommend both.

All Sorts of Tidbits
Posted By ApplesofGold
Lots to talk about! First, my men (husband & son, 11 yrs) took a plane trip to Idaho to go elk hunting w/ friends. They were gone for 8 days. They didn't get anything, but they had a blast. While they were gone, Hannah had a horse show w/ Casey (below). He's been back from the trainer for about 3 months or so and they did fantastic. They won several ribbons as well as winning Grand Champion for 1 division and Reserve Grand Champion for another division. He was such a good boy & I'm so proud of all the hard work Hannah has put into training him. He's a 4 yr old palomino quarterhorse.
Here's a pic of my dh & Alyssa on the tractor. It was a day of moving hay & sawdust. Alyssa loves the tractor, the 4-wheeler-just about anything that moves. :)
In this pic below, Hannah was in a skit for 4-H teen council. She's sitting at the table in the middle. They did a great job & was very funny. It was also 4-H achievement night. She was givin an award for doing well at the state fair hippology tournament & won 33 dollars, too.
Here's Susanna (on the right) & her friend, Brooke. We've had a lot of extra kids here lately to play. These 2 love playing dolls & doing crafts.
Here's a craft that Susanna & I did together. We cut the branch out of a paperbag and glued real leaves to it. Then we covered the whole thing with modpodge. I totally love modpodge!
We've been doing lots of leaf art-I love Autumn! This weekend is a fun one. We had 3 extra kids here yesterday. 1 extra kid here today that is riding w/ Hannah & there's 2 parties that they're both going to tomorrow. One at the stable they help out at & another one for 4-H. Hannah helps with the therapeutic riding lessons at that stable.
Today Jonah was walking Alyssa in the stroller outside. It turned into a 4WD excursion thru mud puddles at high speeds. LOL She apparently loved it until the stroller tipped forward & she got covered in mud. Wish I had gotten a picture, but forgot in the melee of crying & mud flinging. LOL That's all for now! |

Making Cookies for the Elderly
We visit two different nursing homes that have elderly people who get few or no visitors. One group in particular are locked in a certain area because they have Dementia or other mental conditions that need to be confined. The children play the piano, interact, serve them tea and cookies, and give a lot of hugs and kisses.Sometimes the old people might smile and laugh at the children, other times they might hiss, ask for bus directions, think they are ten years old from their childhood, and many other reactions. We were surprised to find that they rarely have visitors. In both nursing homes, the directors and staff have actually cried tears that we would care for some of these people, the are the forgotten ones. We are practicing our cookie making to take to them in this picture.

The Lady In The Third Row
There is what appears to be a very sweet lady who sits in about the third row at our church who ministers to me every single time I go to church. The interesting thing is that I have never spoken to her. I don't know that she has ever noticed me. But I notice her every time.
First you should know that I enjoy worshiping the Lord. I enjoy turning my eyes to the Heavens and imagine myself singing directly to the Lord as He sits on his throne receiving the praises of his children. I enjoy lifting my hands to Him as I sing. Often I will hold my hands with my palms turned up as if giving the Lord the praise directly from my being into His hands. I love to feel the washing of the Spirit over my body. I rarely leave a service where these things has not happened. I am moved by seeing the worship of those around me as well. I picture God accepting the praise of His people as we each worship him in our own way. There is one man who sings every word of every song simply with his eyes closed. There are those who lift their hands and pump out the beat of the music toward the Heavens. There are those who clap the beat (or attempt to clap the beat in my husband's case - heehee). I have been in many services where there have been those who have shouted and I have shouted many times myself. I have seen my own father on a number of occasions shout and laugh as the spirit of the Lord has washed over him. I have watched many tears fall with no other outward sign of worship.
Even as I type this and remember the things I have seen and heard my spirit is blessed. We all worship the Lord in our own ways. But I am one who is moved by the physical. I am not an inactive worshiper. For that reason I am drawn to those who are like me.
A number of months ago I noticed a lady in the section next to mine as she worshiped and sang. She is a small woman probably in her 80s who walks with a walker and stands stooped over. But every single time I look at her during our worship time she is smiling and singing every single word to every single song. It's important here to realize that we have a blended service. We sing a lot of very current popular worship songs of many contemporary artists as well as singing some of the older hymns. Now I'm not a hymn lover and often times find myself singing them out of rote memory without much passion. But this sweet woman holds to the same pattern for every song. Smiling, not missing a word and pounding out each beat with her fist in the air.
This sweet woman encourages me to be consistent in my worship and to sing my praise to God with each note. She blesses my spirit every service. I notice when she isn't there. I find myself thinking about her through the week. I'm sure my life would be blessed by interacting with her. However at this point my spirit is in touch with her spirit. And they are getting along famously. And I am learning a lot from the lady in the third row. |
