• Jul. 15, 2008 - Reading of Roots

I am reading Roots: Saga of a Family.  I started reading this book because our learning will be focused around Black History and I thought I would read this book to Nathaniel.  But at his young age, I don't know that I want to read this book to him.  Yes, I am only in the very beginning of reading the book.  I am at the stage where Kunte has grown from a boy to a man, and he has been captured by toubobs, and having been shackled in rod iron chains.  The toubobs communicate with Kunte and the other captured by whipping them.  One would assume the captured are whipped so because the toubobs all are unable to speak the same language.  What a bombarded way to communicate.  So anyways, Kunte is captured and put in the hole of a ship to live amongs others in their body secretions.  How awful to have to live that way.

So back to my thought of reading it to Nathaniel.  I'm still out on that thought.
