Our Montessori Journey

• Dec. 22, 2005 - I Quit

I tried to turn in my letter of resignation as a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom today, but my husband says that resignations and other work stoppages are illegal under New York law.  So there goes that idea.

These are the things I wonder about, though.

1.I guess God thinks I can handle twins who never sleep; a 9 yo with behavioral problems (we have an appointment with a neurologist next week to see if it's Tourette's or something else); and a two year old, but I think He is seriously overestimating my abilities right now.  ***(My 6 year old daughter is being a huge help with the babies and getting a very hard time from her older brother, so maybe I'll take her with me when I quit.)

2.  Why do my children think that they should have been born knowing everything they will need to know forever and ever?  ("Here, K, look.  Now that we've finally found the power cord for the keyboard, here are our music books."    "But, Mommy, I don't know how to read notes!!!!!!!!")

3.Don't any homeschoolers in NY form playgroups?  We're having a hard time finding one, and we're lonely.  All of our neighbors are old.  And the homeschool coop we participated in this fall is over until March.

4. Granted that I agree with the Montessori idea that beauty and order are necessary to the development of children, how is that achieved in a house with 7 people, 3 of them under the age of 2, especially when even the little ones won't go to sleep until 10 PM?  G and K (my 9 and 6 yos) can only do so many practical life activities!

OK, so I'm not really quitting, and I'm keeping all five of them.  But, God, if you're listening, I really can't drink much more caffeine, and someone is going to injure themselves on these Legos, I'm telling you.

Loved your blog. Very true and honest.

As I sit here ,only what 3 days before Christmas, with 2 beautiful daughters who at this very moment in time have plucked what I feel is my last nerve. You know you need to "time out" yourself when your getting ready to say things like your mom would - " just wait till you have kids" or " well we'll just have to see what we find under the tree this year". I love my DD's with all my heart, but I'm rethinking our whole Christmas to New Years vacation.. Will have to take a trip to the local craft store to find some fun things to do.

Think I've had enough caffine today? Sorry about the rambling.

I did love your blog though. Will be praying for you. Have tried turning in my resgination many of times. ;-)

Very honest and open. Many, if not all, homeschooling mommies want to quit at least once. Happily we all find reasons to stay on and keep on keeping on.

Praying you had a Blessed Christmas.

God Bless,
