Thankful Thursday Ode to Autumn

Posted in God and Grace

Pumpkins in the cornfields
Gold among the brown
Leaves of rust and scarlet
Trembling slowly down
Birds that travel southward
Lovely time to play
Nothing is as pleasant
on an autumn day.

I am thankful for all the autumn joys.
The cool crisp air, pumpkins, hayrides,
and apple pie. Acorns ,walnuts,
and the smell of burnt leaves.

I am thankful for time with my children.
Last night I helped the church set up
for rummage sale and found a whole bunch
Of things for Spirit to wear this winter. I
found some really great things. Now I only
have to buy personal garments , Pants for
Superboy and a jacket. Oh what a blessing.

I am thankful for all the fun things we
are able to do this week. Such as the sale,
pumpkin patch visit and a football game.

Helping Your Teen Choose Their Path

Posted in God and Grace

Now your teenager is growing up and it's time to
help them to begin to plan for their future. You
have worked hard teaching them to grow in their
education. You have taught them social skills, manners,
faith and life skills. It's time now to take a peek into
their future. What do they want to do with the rest of
their lives. What is their calling to God? This is
a really tough question. Most adults don't know
the answers for themselves.

In his heart a man plans his course,
but the Lord determines his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 NIV

50% of college students enroll undecided
60% of students change their major at least 4 times

I think that sometimes we plan farther ahead
than God wants us to see or know. So we do
change our mind as our paths change. Sometimes
we think that God is leading us in one direction but
find that he is leading us another way. So
then how as parents can we help our children
to follow their God given interests and honor God?

First thing we need to do is pray over our teens.
Remind them to pray about this on their own
as well.

Wait for the LORD; be strong and
take heart and wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:14 NIV

Then think.. Is this something that will honor God.
Will he be pleased with your childs choices. We
did this in our youth group on Sunday. The teens
went around and discussed how their talents
could be used to honor God. This is almost a
different question and yet its not. We want our
childrens actions to glorify God. We want their work
in life to glorify God. Even if its being a wrestling
coach. I have heard of a wrestling coach in
our area that is a pastor as well. He has instilled
into the teens lives his faith along with the sport.
All of the teens attend his services to learn about
God. Something draws them to this man. I am
sure it is God.

Don't take this lightly. Listen to your children
don't try to tell them what they like. Give them
a chance to tell you. Then help them see how
the activity could glorify God and if it cant
then maybe it isnt really something your child
will want to do. :)

Thankful Thursday

"The grass withereth , the flower fadeth,
but the word of God will stand forever."
Isaiah 40:8

I am Thankful this week for some time in prayer with
God. He always seems to fill my needs when they
are present. I sat in our church sanctuary and looked
up at the wooden ceilings and big tube shaped lights. I
noticed Gods cross right on them .Its been awhile since
I looked up at them with such awe and love. I was but
a child when I didnt understand the sermon going on
but could look up at the lights and the big cross at
the alter . I could feel God wrapping his arms around me.
As simple as that action is it still brings back warm
feelings of love and security. My hope is that my
children feel as blessed in our church family.

I am also thankful for the clean house I have again
this week. My home always makes me feel like I
have accomplished something big. Even in the mondane
day to day chores. I am so grateful to have a place
where I can relax and light my candles.

I am also thankful for the relaxed state the family seems
to be in this week. School has gone so well . Everyone
Is ready to learn and be together.

I do ask for a few prayers this week.
I ask that we pray for our countries leaders.
That we pray for those voting that they may
choose to elect one pleasing to God.
It is such a big and important decision
To make.

Snuggles while reading stories about Curious George.

School games that work and the children enjoy them.

Cooler ,crisper weather.

Feeling better today , well and more energy.

Eager children willing to learn.

Princess' helping hands in the kitchen.

Hearts ability to make me smile even when
I am not feeling well.

And warm comfy quilts.

Thankful Thursday

Posted in God and Grace

As many of you know the start to my
week this week was hard. The kids didn't
want to go with the program at all. I expect
these things to happen. We are only human
after all, yet the trials of the day can be heady
sometimes. As the week progressed the kids
were more on the same page. The bickering
stopped . The pages of math my son filled in
as all answers with 2 were redone. My daughters
commas were placed in the right spots. My
chores were caught up and lessons graded.
I gave the kids a big tub this morning of legos
and they went to town, in anticipation of the
lego club someone in our co-op started.

So, I am Thankful for the lessons completed.
I am thankful the lessons redone ,as now
my children learned a lesson within the lesson.
That you cant take short cuts in math. That if
you dont do your best the first time you will
have to take time and do it again.
I am also Thankful for the Lego club idea.
I think this might be the thing Superboy needs.

I am also Thankful for the great article on
www.homeschoolblogawards.com

Today they posted this verse. It surely was
speaking to me this week.

Hear my cry, O God; attend to my
prayer. From the end of the earth
I will cry to You, when my heart is
overwhelmed; lead me to the rock
that is higher than I. For you have
been a shelter for me, and a strong
tower from the enemy. I will abide
in Your tabernacle forever; I will
trust in the shelter of Your wings.

Psalm 61:1-4

Blinkie Maker

Is it actually Thursday already. The week
is flying past me as usual.  I think a lot
of moms right now are feeling the pressure
after a relaxing summer. The pressure of running
around everywhere, keeping the home clean,
the kids in order, the finances arranged, church
activities handled, time for God and time for you.
I have been really taking things in stride. There
are times I feel a bit anxious by am trying not to
allow that feeling into my home. Taking time
for myself and stepping back and away from a
situation when it comes around. Which is not
always easy.

I am thankful this week for the...
Blinkie Maker

It is great to keep that feeling .
Especially with all the business this time of year brings.
It can be hard to do when you are running around
and around but it is possible. Remember to take time
for you as I have this week.

I am also thankful for all the

Blinkie Maker

the children have done for school so far.
It sometimes is hard to get into a routine again
but they have been more than willing to get going.

I am also thankful for all the

Blinkie Maker

we have in our cabinets at this time. The
market we shop at had a huge meat sale. I think
we will be stocked for the month at least.

I am also thankful for the fun...

That I found at www.free-blinkies.com

Strange Ways oh Lord

Posted in God and Grace

Sometimes God works in ways that we may
not understand at the time. It can be a bit
confusing but somehow God lets us know why
something occured and sometimes
we never know. This week has been a huge
lesson week. A lesson I thought I had already
learned. Apprently I am a bit hard headed. lol

The week began normal enough but as the days
went by our food went too. We weren't to a point
where we didn't have anything we just had a lot
of chicken and a turkey till payday. I had come upon
$15. Dollars in my wallet and decided to make my
way to the store to get a different meat to mix
things up till payday. Kids get tired of Chicken you
know. As I drove I asked God to guide me in as
silly of a task as helping me to find at least two
meats to mix things up with. I did find the two and
was happy for the sale I found. I was oh so
grateful to God and Thanked him for the offering.
Later an Aunt came by and brought us a box off
groceries. Which was a surprise to us, because
they were going on vacation and she thought
these things would spoil. So some how I ended
up with an abundance till payday. Again I
thanked the Lord for such a precious gift. Sometimes
food is more of a gift than we realize.
That was earlier this week.

Thinking how amazing God is... and heading off
to church this morning as I pull into our
church parking lot my mini van makes a loud
grinding sound. I was upset and worried about
the new expense of things. Two of my closest
male friends at church took a look at it. One being
a mechanic at a well known garage in the area
and one working on train engines. Went out
bought the part , fixed it and called it good. All
while I was watching little ones in the nursery.

Trust in God , Fully rely on him.
HE will provide.

Even though I know this. Even though God
has shown this to me time and time again.
I still worry , I still fret... Oh
If I wasnt so hard headed.

Thankful Thursday

Is it Thursday already. Where has the week gone
again. Time sure does fly by. I think I must say
that once a week. It has been a great week. I
haven't been as organized as I normally am and
feel it a little bit. It really bothers me when I'm not
all together. I will remedy that before the weekend
comes. I plan to work on organizing our schoolroom
this evening. I have papers and boxes everywhere.

Last night I went with Heart and Princess to a concert.
A christian Band called Farewell Flight. Heart bought
a T-shirt. I had to laugh a little at Princess . She thought
the band was to loud. Eventually though she walked
around with the other teens a bit. Next year she will
be able to go with the group more often . I can't say
the band itsself felt like worship for me like some do.
I am more of a praise and worship gal but the girls
like it and for that I am Thankful.

I am Thankful also for the fun time I had with
the kids this week. The snuggle time and the
bike riding we were able to do.

Tomorrow evening is Hearts sweet 16 party.
It looks like 50 are coming to this teen party.
Prayers are needed for me to keep it all
together.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am Thankful for the most Amazing Daughter.
My girl Heart. Today she is 16 years old . My has
time just flown right by. It seems like only yesterday
that I sat and painted little pictures on her arms and legs
as she yelled a duck here mom a rainbow there. How
about the day she came with a big smile on her face as
she lead me to show me a rainbow she had drawn on our
wall that said I love my family. How could I possibly be
upset. I love you always.. I love you through all the bumps
like falling out of the wash basket. I love you through
all the good times and all the bad... "I am calling the
SPCA on you" Through it all you can always count on me
to be here for you and be your mom.

Once during one of her dance competitions, she had to
sing a solo. She wanted to sing this solo and had
practiced for months but when the time came she and
I were so nervous. As I went to get her off stage she
cried of relief I think. I cried right with her. I will even
cry with you when your down.

It has been so awesome to have a daugher like
you . I hope to have many more years sharing
in Christs love with you. I know that the years pass
away quickly but daughters, friendships, laughs
and photos will keep for a lifetime.

Thankfulness Thursday

Yeah !! It's Thursday and I am so THANKFUL it
is Thursday. That time of year has come for me. The
time when I am seeing all the planning and events in my
site. I am THANKFUL for the time over the summer
months of relaxation. For awhile I was hesitant to see
Sept. Rolling in but now that  Aug. is almost  past
I am getting excited about all the newness that this time
brings. The books, pencils, co-ops, church activities,
the smell of crisp leaves in the air. Fall is absolutely
my favorite time. I am THANKFUL fo Sept.
and all the excitement it brings. I am THANKFUL
for the rest of the summer that we have left. I still
plan to take advantage of the nice weather as long as
I can. Yet I am still looking forward to fall...

I am also THANKFUL for my church. For the
new ideas that our sunday school came up with
last night. I am THANKFUL for the guidance God
gave us in planning our year and picking our
curriculum. It was exciting to see how the choice
flew right at us even when our coordinator actually
was thinking a different direction. I am THANKFUL
he is flexablity.

Please pray for us as we plan our Sunday
School fair. Help us to come up with ideas to
enhance our church family.

Thankful Thursday

Posted in God and Grace

I am thankful this week for some time to myself.
My mom this week took the kids for a bit. Of course
I had to clean up but then I was able to sit back
with some cheese crackers , juice and watching some movies
on lifetime. :) I sure did need that
break from them. It was odd though. Oddly quiet.
I was able to feel a calm I havent had in a long
time but now I feel ready to begin our school in a few
weeks. Well emotionally ready. I have some planning
to do.

I am thankful for not having to really go anywhere
this week. I like to be home taking care of the
house and taking care of the kids. I like to be
by myself too. With the TV off and just listening
to the quiet. It's sometimes hard to hear God when
there is all that extra noise around you. Like
children yelling, TV going, radio going, cars
beeping etc..

It's been a good week.

flip to ABC Family they show 3 back to back. lol
Course after 2 I'm done sitting.

I am thankful for the bloggy giveaways.
I am having so much fun entering contests.
There are like 1,000 contests out there right now
but you better hurry time is running out.

I am thankful for the bucket list. I finally
go to watch that movie this week . It really makes
you think about your life and if you are
doing all that you were created to do.

I am Thankful for Spirit. He is such a
sweety. He has been playing all day with his
pirate ship and blocks. Babbling to himself.
I surely wish that the others would be as
content.

I am Thankful for all of our extra space.

I am thankful for privacy.

I am thankful for simplicity.

God is so good.

I am thinking about taking a class on leading
small group teen bible studies. They would
begin in Aug. Please pray with me too as I consider
this . It may add more to my time in Aug. and not sure
if I have more to give. Yet I feel God pulling me
to take this class. I am praying about it now and
seem to be getting the same answer. Yet for some
reason I still hestiate.

I am so Thankful for our VBS this week.
It sure has been a busy week so far and is almost

well. I am sooo exhausted. Somehow 2 of my children
have gotten the stomach bug. Heart on Sunday so she didn't
miss VBS and Spirit on Wed. Luckily this bug only seems short
term. Lets just hope and pray that for the rest of the week
the rest of us stay well.

I am thankful for Hand sanitizer. Who ever
made germ-X . Thank- you.

I am Thankful for fun things like bubbles, parachutes
and games.

I am thankful for all the helpers at our VBS that
make things run smoothly... or at least try their best to.

I am Thankful for my dear friend Jan because
I think I would have lost my sanity long ago without her.

I am Thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ because without
him I would having nothing to celebrate about. No
Reason for all this fun and learning to be going on.

Godly Mentor

Posted in God and Grace

Café Chat July 5th

Do you have a godly (woman) mentor in your life? If so, describe your relationship with her… If you don’t have a mentor, would you like one and what would you hope to gain from the relationship?

I did have some one I once looked up to as
a mentor. (still do)I was  young and didnt think
of the relationshipin that way. I was only 21 years
old. I had a little one and my husband had left.
I was alone and working part timewhere ever I could.
Jean took me and showed me the ropes
at our church. I had gone there since little on
up butstopped during the teen years. I just didnt
have the backingand support I needed to keep my
faith Strong. I was completely lost. I cried myself to
sleep most nights. I begged God to come and help me.
I didn't realize he was there all along. I
began working in our church nurseryfor a
little extra money. I needed
all the help I could get. Jean took me and helped
me with the children. She showedme how to be
organized and how to teach them. I grew
stronger in my faith and I lead just by watching
things that she did. We became very good friends
even though I was younger than her. We spoke on the
phone often. We planned together to keep teaching
our children about Christ. Jean eventually was
diagnosed with Cancer. She passed many of the
church responsiblities to me. Saying that I was who
she could trust to take over. I took that very seriously
and to this day still work in the ministries she passed
on to me. Even passing she was a figure of strength
for everyone she spoke to and met with. I felt lead
by her even to the very end. Even though she has
been gone seveal years now.. I still try to model
my life to hers as it all fits to me. I used to
tell her when I growup I want to be just like you .
I miss her terrible but hope that she sees how all
her work paid off. That I can do and keep the
faith and the churchon its feet. I hope I am doing
all she would do. Sometimes
learning as I go. There will never be another
like her and maybe one day I can mentor someone
else in the planning and preparing of our church family.

Thankful Thursday

Posted in God and Grace

It has been a great week so far. I love weeks
like this one. The kind of week where everything seems to
fall right into place. That was the kind of week we had. I
am finally feeling the relaxed state of summer. We all
seem to be moving lately at a less stressful pace , which is
really great. I am thankful for that.

I am also thankful for getting organized. I am working on
organizing out school a bit. Planning lesson plans
using some organizing tips I found from some classroom
teachers. Now I am not for making my school seem like
a public school classroom however there are some great ideas
there as well. You just have to sift through them . I am
thankful for finding all the time managment ideas and
developmental guides . Although I'll take those in
perspective  too.

I am also thankful for the cool weather we have been having.
Its not to hot to go outside and play it is just the right temp.
for hikes, walks and bike riding.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the less stressful times of summer. This
is the time of year my heart feels free. I enjoy all of your
creation and am awed by its beauty.  Thank you also for
all the great school ideas I have found. I hope that in the
fall I can teach my children to your will and glorify you. I
ask for you guiding hand as I plan. I thank you for
safety as well. Toad called yesterday to let me know his
plane landed safely and that he had made it to Florida.
I ask that you watch over him as he explores Disney and
stays safe on  his return flight home.

I also ask for your guidance as I work on my plans for
our church VBS. That I can instill your word into the
hearts of those small children I will be working with. I
pray that things move along safely and that the children
enjoy their experience at our church.

In Jesus name I Pray
Amen

Thankful Thursday

Posted in God and Grace

I am so Thankful today for my little ones. That
they are close by and I can hold, hug and love on them
till my hearts content. Today on 5 minutes for moms the
news of a mother whose child drowned in a hot tub
was just announced. Her blog is here.
www.adailyscoop.blogspot.com
My heart is so heavy for her . I can not even imagine
nor want to imagine the terrible loss and feeling she must
be going through. Please say a prayer for he today
and the coming days.

I had a similar scare a few days ago. I went
to our youth picnic and was following Spirit everywhere.
I was worried about him falling in the pool. I brought his
bike with us so he could ride on their blacktop.
As I was talking to a friend he kept riding around
and around the area. He would go in the garage
and out around and in the other door in a big loop.
After 20 times I stopped following him but would wait and
if it took him to long to come around I would peek
around the corner and he would giggle. Well
one time he didn't come and I peeked and he wasnt there.
He had parked his bike and was walking toward the
pool!!! I ran toward him but a friend stopped him.
She had seen him coming and knew I was normally not
far behind him so she delayed him by talking to
Him and blocking him from the pool.

I am so blessed that nothing terrible happened to him.
There were a lot of people there that day and
I was so grateful that one saw and notice my
little guy. No doubt someone would have
stopped him but  It just goes to show how quicky it can
happen. It was only seconds out of my view.
I am so lucky that he is safe and I can hug him and love
on him daily.

Even though this is thankful Thursday
Today I take a solemn stand and remind parents
and famillies to watch those little ones this
summer and keep them safe.

Instead of a Thankful prayer take a moment
of silence to ask God to watch over the little ones.

I am thankful for the beautiful sounds of the harp that
we heard at the park this week.

I am thankful for the time spend taking a walk through
the woods and enjoying nature. Breathing in the smell.
Watching the boats on the lake and just relaxing.

I am thankful for reading time. Spirit and I spent many
hours this week reading. He really enjoys the ones with
animals in. He likes to make all the sounds the animals
make as we read along.

I am thankful for all the fun goodies I found on the net
this week. Nature journals, math games, bulletin board
Ideas for sunday school and 101 youth group icebreaker
e-books. Some great finds.

Dear Heavenly father,
I thank you so much for time with my family. I know how
Lucky I am to be able to stay at home with them and
enjoy every moment. I am so glad that life isnt just passing
me by. That I can sit and enjoy and ant with my 2 year old
on our side walk. Thank you for that gift. You are such
a gracious and loving God.

In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
