If you struggle with a spirit of anger (as I do) you just have to read these brilliant articles by Terri Maxwell!
The Case Against Anger One thing that Terri (author of above articles) wrote really hit home with me: "How much do I hate my anger? Is it worldly sorrow over it or godly sorrow? 2 Corinthians 7:10, "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." This was such a hard lesson for me to learn, and I am still growing in it. I would hate my anger, but only because it represented another of my failures, not because it was sin". I do HATE my anger, and feel ashamed of myself whenever I lose my temper, but I hated it because it made me feel like a failure (again!) not because I recognised it as sin. What a difference!! I can conquer sin with the help of my Lord Jesus Christ!
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. James 3:9-12 NIV My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. James 1:19-20 NIV
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.Proverbs 15:1 NIV
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.Proverbs 29:11 NIV
Hmmm, I better stop there - the Bible sure does have an awful lot to say about anger!! Man I love www.biblegateway.com!! Thanks so much to my good friend Joy for sharing these articles with me! I am truly blessed to have such great friends & sisters in Christ!
