Summertime activities for children-looking for ideas

What do you do when your children are bored? I know some of you must have some great activities to pull out when needed, and am sure we could all benefit from a few fresh ones.  I need ideas mainly to keep younger ones occupied on rainy days or when it is too hot to play; even for during the school year when Mom is busy teacher olders.  Please contribute any ideas you have found to work well!

About Me

We have homeschooled from the beginning and currently have children in grades 9,8,6,5,4,1 and K, plus a few preschoolers. Baby #10 arrived in February. In general we use Rod and StaffEnglish and Bible/reading, Saxon math, A Beka on occasion for history and geography, and some Christian Liberty Press and Veritas materials. Next year we plan to do some unit studies with three of the girls using the Prairie Primer.
