Christian Vs. Secular Music Pt. III

Here is the anticipated reply to the Christian Vs. Secular Music.

First of all, Bigdog, your entire post had nothing to do with what I posted. It was a red herring. The purpose of why God created adrenaline has nothing to do with music. I was brining up a possible point to consider that certain types of music can open doors to having the imagination captured, but it was not the basis of the entire argument. So I cannot reply to your entire post because it has nothing to do with the original subject matter, which is the spirit of popular music.

So I'm just going to hit the nail on the head. Aside from Christ-honoring music, there's no "perfectly good" music out there. The only things that are good or redeemed are those that are in Christ. Seperate from Christ, what are we? We are serving our flesh, we are serving to destroy ourselves. When you're not a Christian, what are you? Who do you serve? And please, don't avoid the question by saying, "They just don't know", because in the Bible it says just the opposite.

Matthew 6:24 "No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Regardless of what you say about the "one good man of sodom", it doesn't matter, you are still supporting the agenda of Smashmouth and other various secular artists when you mention them and bop around to their music. They are not serving God, they are serving the demise of human souls, their very own demise! They are serving themselves, their flesh, Satan. Okay, I know, this seems radical, they aren't blatantly saying it, but it still leads to the same destruction when you serve your own flesh and don't dedicate your life to Christ. Now, I will discuss this issue further if you will return to the original subject matter, which is the spirit of Secular music.

"Hey, the song about stoners? Isn't that good? I mean there ARE stoners out there. You can ignore it and not listen to songs about them all you want...but they'll still be there." -Futurewriterandvet

Well you know what? Smashmouth has an agenda, and they're telling people they want to get stoned whether they like it or not. I do not hear one ounce of them telling people to repent of this lifestyle, that it is hurtful. This just seems like a song thats telling people, "Go ahead, get stoned, it doesn't matter, we do it too."

"Also, music itself is not bad. Have you ever listend to christian, rock, or rap or something? They're music is EXACTLY the same, it just has differn't words." -Futurewriterandvet

Half of Christian music that is labeled Christian really isn't, but that is getting off of the subject, lets get rid of the red herrings here and divulge ourselves in the true subject matter. Come on, guys, we aren't getting to the core of the matter here. What does God's Word say about all of this? I've got Scriptures to back up my point, now I would like to see yours.

"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

Collosians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God."

Ephesians 5:18 - 19  "And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit; speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord..."

(Emphasis added on Scriptures.)

[Qoute Annette] When you're not a Christian, what are you? Who do you serve? And please,
don't avoid the question by saying, "They just don't know", because in the Bible it says just
the opposite. [/Qoute]

But it also says that those un-believers can be saved. Does it not?

[Qoute Annette] Regardless of what you say about the "one good man of sodom"
, it doesn't matter, you are still supporting the agenda of
Smashmouth and other various secular artists when you mention
them and bop around to their music. [/Qoute]

How? By Buying their music? So, Are you also going to screen the beliefs of your Landlord?
Plumber? Waiter? Fireman?
Police Officer? Janitor?
Are you going to stop going to ALL movies out of Hollywood?
Will you never again pay to go into any museum that
features art by non-believers?
Will you pay to go to a college that has any non-believing
staff? Are you using a
computer that was made by a Christian company with Christian
parts? Is the phone/cable
line that connects you to the internet a "Christian" line?
Are you going to do a
background check on every artist you "support" before buying
their music?
Are you going to follow the money trail past the "Christian"
label to make
sure they are not in turn funded by secular money?

Judge the music you listen to by what it IS and not by its
source -
the message does not become sanctified just because it's
from a "Christian" band,
nor does it become evil because it's from a "secular" band.
Words mean things,
and their meaning does not magically change from good to bad
or bad to good
because of their source. That goes for all art/literature/etc.
Morality is not determined by the orientation of the actor.
A simple perusal of your local "Christian" bookstore should
convince
you that Christian labels don't equate to Christian content!

Please understand that when I said "Perfectly good" What I meant was
Biblically Acceptable.

You wanted Bible verses to back my point? Here they are

John 2:1-10 (It's rather long so I didn't post the whole thing.)

Jesus' First Miracle was just to keep the party going!

1st Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in
uncertain riches, but in the h living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;"

All things. If this does not mean secular and Christian music, please tell me what it means.
