And the Saga Continues...

Feb. 21, 2008 - Time! Where did it come from?!

Yes, I actually have time to write.  Not as much as I wish I had, but enough.

Ever read something out of the Bible that you just needed to share with someone?  I have many times, and especially recently, but I've been sick a lot over the last few months and haven't made it to church to share.  So, y'all get to hear my speel.  =)

Lately I have been going through some major things - some good, and some bad.  I've been learning (still am) to put God first, prioritize correctly, and face problems instead of procrastinate and hope (stupidly) that they'll just blow away.  Perhaps it sounds easy, or maybe it would be for you, but for me it has been tough.

Something very big in my life got taken away recently.  It was HARD.  It has been a part of my life for nearly my whole life, and I was focusing on it with something close to idolatry.  This something is something that I feel the Lord wants to me to do - but I was doing it more for my own glory rather than His.  Due to various circumstances (which I will not take time now to relate) this very important part of my life was stripped away.  For the first week I ranted and whined and cried and huffed.  Now, looking back, I'm ashamed, but glad I have it to look back at, rather than still floundering in it.

About a week into this dramatic change, I realized what an idiot I was being!  I went to the Lord and gave it to Him.  I said, "God, I'm gonna give this to You.  It hurts.  But it's Yours.  Use me how You want -Your will be done."  I was reminded of the story of Abraham offering his son.  God told him to give up Issac - Abraham obeyed - but then , God stopped him from laying a hand on him.  That was encouragement to me.

There are SO many amazing Scriptures.  From Psalms alone:

"For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret place of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock."  (Psalms 27: 5) and
"But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation."  (Psalms 13:5) and
"The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of salvation, and my high tower.  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies." (Psalms 18:2-3)

But the Scripture that really stood out to me was again out of Psalms.  It says:

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."  (Psalms 37:4).

A few days after I read this I was scanning Danya's blog and saw that she had just written something about this particular scripture!  It was awesome.

ANYways, here is what this scripture says to me: God doesn't say, "Slave for ME, and I will do what you want."  He's not bribing us, or making us work for Him in order to get what we want.  He says to DELIGHT ourselves in Him, and He would give us the desires of our hearts!!  How sweet is that?!  So, I started to do that.  I began praising Him instead of listening to music (I challenge all you music lovers to do that!  Whenever you want to pop in those earphones, DON'T!  Sing to Jesus!) and reading my Bible instead of others books.

God gave me back the thing that was taken away.

It is no longer my passion - God is!  How cool is that?!  xD  Anyways, just wanted to share with you all.  I hope this blessed you as much as it blessed me.

In Christ,
Jess

P.S.  By the way, many things have been happening lately.  (Remember "exciting" isn't always good...)  1., my sister had a birthday (Happy Birthday, Hannah!!) 2., I did (duh) 3., I went on an eight mile killer hike, up and down and up and down.  It was awesome!  4., I have Cecchetti ballet exams coming up in less than a month (ahhh!) 5., I'm working at a reptile show with my daddy this weekend, and 6., my aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer.  The doctors are giving her five years or less.  Please pray for her.  She's not a Christian.  (BTW, she is not the aunt some of you know.  She lives in Houston).  My mom and her other sister are going to visit and pray for her March 1st.  Your prayers are coveted.

Anyways, I'll try to post some pictures soon.  Stay tuned!  By the way, an old friend of mine got a blog.  She's really cool.  We danced together for quite a while, and have known each other for years.  Check her blog out here.

Mm, I've been going through some similar things, and I've had to re-prioritize my life a little. It's hard, but the further I go, the more I begin to see the fruit of my efforts, and how God is always there. We just need to listen, and give up our selfish desires, and then life gets better. Weird. Amazing how something so simple and obvious can be so hard, huh?

I'm praying for your aunt. That's gotta be tough.
That is why we should live life to the fullest, and go skydiving, or something.

Your brother in Christ,

My favorite snake? Hmm, that's a tough one. I really like Timber Rattlers, since they're so pretty and relatively rare.

I forgot to mention, I'm also taking care of my brother's Leopard Gecko and a vinegaroon he caught in New Mexico. :P

Feb. 29, 2008 - Great lesson...

I am very glad that you have learned such a valuable lesson. It is one that people throughout the corridors of time have struggled with, and many have not succeeded as well as you. Praise God for his infinite mercy on us as we stumble along!

Our family listens to a lot of music, and you have encouraged me to see if we could start singing instead of flicking on the radio. (We are really bad at singing, but we'll give it a shot!)

Next time I make a cake how 'bout I mail you a piece? Maybe the USPS has a dessert shipping option!!!!

Later,

BFH

About Me

You really want to know about me? Okay...you asked for it... Here's a short list of the things I love in life: late nights, Hannah's grin, blue jeans, dancing in the rain (or anywhere!), my amazing friends who try to be cool but aren't (and because of that they are), the smell of my dad's work truck, black shirts, handling reptiles, my brother's curly-blonde hair, reading while relaxing on my bed, eating yellow curry with my cousins, going on insanely hard hikes, jamming out to rock music, my mom's voice, snake hunting, crying out to Jesus when I just can't seem to handle it... weird, I know. Welcome to my blog! Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.
