Adventures of an intrepid aunt
• Oct. 1, 2009 - My Jesus, I Love Thee
Have been thinking about Chris Klicka this morning. I remember when he came to speak at the OCEANetwork Conference a few years ago. In farewell and blessing, we (all the conference attendees gathered in the sanctuary) sang him this song. It was beautiful, and poignant, and I'm glad the Lord gave him a few more years after that on this earth, to be with his family and friends. Still, it is a comfort that for him, "to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
Praying God's peace for him and those who love him.
My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now. |

• Nov. 17, 2008 - HorseIsle!
Posted By JenX
In the past two weeks, I have discovered a REALLY cool website! It's called HorseIsle. www.horseisle.com
I love it! You can start out on any server once you have created an account. There are all sorts of help websites, my favorite being www.freewebs.com/kyriri
She's really helpful.
ANYWAY
There are 'quests' to be done, where you find an NPC (non-player character) and do something for them. Some are hard, and some are easy. You get 'quest points' for doing these quests, and these quest points allow you to venture to different isles! There are libraries where you can look things up.
There are RIDDLES! once in a while. The first one to answer gets $1,000 HorseIsle money. It's not hard to make money. Horses are sold for anything from 10k to 1000k. Most quests bring around $5,000-10,000, with extremely hard ones bringing up to $50,000.
You cannot breed the horses. There are 3 ways to get a horse. You can lease one from certain areas, buy one from another player, or 'catch' one. To catch a horse, you have to find it first. You can wander around on the various isles. When you find a horse, the breed and color will show up in a right-hand window near the top of your screen. You will click 'capture' and a minigame opens up. If you catch the horse, you'll still have to put tack on it. When you have shoes, saddle, bridle, and saddle pad, you can ride your horse.
There are many stores that will buy the various items you can find. A general store, food store, tack store, groomer, farrier, rock store, feed store, and clothes store are found in large towns. Smaller towns may have any combination of these.
And that's all I can really tell you about it! If you check it out, you won't be sorry! |

• Nov. 10, 2008 - Exciting news!
Our younger two got selected for the local historical fort's "Dame School". There were only 16 spots--I don't know how many applied.
We were there all morning, this morning, working out their clothing. Exhausting, but fun--sort of like playing dressup with several rooms full of clothing. They took care of almost everything--underclothes, dresses, shoes, cloaks, petticoats. The only thing we have to buy is stockings.
Elder dd and I had volunteered for "Auntie School" but when we didn't hear anything we thought we hadn't qualified. It turns out that we *did* qualify--they had us set up in their volunteer hours log and everything--but somehow we were never notified to go to the first day of training. I got to play dress-up today, too! My dress needs altering, but I'll be able to pick it up on Monday next week.
They're repeating the first day of training next month, so we'll go then. What fun! It appears we're all going to be historical re-enactors (maybe docents?) when training is done. |

I was double-checking links on a homeschool resource list and Highland Heritage came up as not found.
Do you know what happened? Is there a different link to these wonderful resources? (I hope...?)

Great news! I got an email yesterday announcing that I’ve been selected for the new Focus Group sponsored by The Old Schoolhouse magazine.
However, I’m interrupted by an insistent dog, as well as children looking for breakfast, so I’ll have to tell you more later!

• Sep. 2, 2008 - Light for a Monday morning (only it's Tuesday)
Had planned to start posting a hymn again every Monday, but yesterday was a holiday, so I'm posting today. Our first day of school isn't going quite the way I'd planned (see www.homeschoolblogger.com/sweet2bhome for details) and we're getting a very late start on our day.
Actually, we'd have been starting our academics right about this time anyhow, because three of us had chiropractor appointments this morning, and we'd have just gotten home in the last half hour if things had gone as planned. But two of us our sick with a miserable cold, and since I'm one of them, things are moving very slowly at our house today.
Google found lyrics at this link, and you can also download midi files (piano, organ, bells) and a PDF of the piano music there, too.

073. O Worship the King
Text: Robert Grant, 1779-1838
Music: Attr. to Johann Michael Haydn, 1737-1806
Tune: LYONS, Meter: 10 10.11 11
1. O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing God's power and God's love; our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
2. O tell of God's might, O sing of God's grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space, whose chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is God's path on the wings of the storm.
3. The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, thy power hath founded of old; hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree, and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.
4. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.
5. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail; thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end, our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

| This is another great site! You make an account, and you get eggs! You raise your eggs by getting people to look at them, and they'll hatch! If they get enough views, they'll grow into adults, and you can breed them! |

| I am now a part of a Christian Homeschool history co-op. We only meet once every two weeks, and I have three lectures to listen to, take quizzes on, and write 150-200 word essays on. *Sighs* It won't be TOO much fun, but I'll survive. Thankfully, the first book we are reading is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. |
