~No "school" today~
We had an interesting day of learning today. None of it was planned. In fact, I planned to do no schooling today-but we all know it doesn't have to be school time for learning time.
Susanna has become quite the little naked nature girl. She's also potty training and doing pretty well-now that it is her idea. LOL. She was outside this morning with nothing on but her pink boots and carrying a pink purse on one arm and a purple purse on the other. She had caterpillars in each purse. LOL.
At breakfast, she was watching the birds come to the feeder and can now recognize and call by name the nuthatch and the titmouse. Every time she sees birds, she asks me to get the (Audobon) bird book. She gets so excited at all the pictures and wanted to show Hannah, Jonah and me all the pictures and wanted us to tell her each of their names.
That turned into a half a day of art. They drew pictures of some of the birds out of the book with oil pastels and Hannah added some ink details to hers. They've also thinking they might like to enter their artwork into an art contest at BlueThistleBooks. I'm so excited for Jonah. This is the first picture he's ever drawn that he actually liked. He thinks he can't draw well because his sister's art always looks better than his to him. I thought this was great:

Here's Hannah's pictures:

This is a peregrine falcon below. They just finished My Side of the Mountain with their Dad, so they're really into falcons right now:

Susanna also got artistic. She stuck her fingers in the blue ink:

We also finished reading an absolutely wonderful, beautiful book called Teddy's Button. We got it from LampLighter Publishing.

Oh my goodness-lots of tears from me during the story and at the end of the book. The little boy in this book stole my heart. And the kids loved it, too. LOL

That's what Homeschool is going about. Stopping and learning!
I loved your Father's day story. How awesome it was to help that friend...how fantastic it was that your daughter had empathy for her. What seeds have been planted in both their hearts, we may never know!
It really touched my heart! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Thanks, too, for stopping by! I loved your comment about keeping my sense of humor. I'm so glad you saw that - not every one does. :-) I'm still getting over the embarrassment of it all - but hopefully things will be so much better this week. I'm praying.
I can't wait to read the next adventures you guys have. See you soon!!

Jun. 21, 2007 - We love birds!

Our oldest has been into birds for awhile, so he was in heaven when we found baby birds in an eye-level nest. Last year, we visited the Audubon House in Kentucky and that fueled the fire even more.
I think all of the art is beautiful, especially the little blue fingers. So sweet!
