Week Fourteen:
According to the “World Christian Encyclopedia,” in 1900 49.9% of all Christians lived in Europe, by 1985 it was approximately 27.2%.  In 1900 81.1% of all Christians were white.  By 2000 approximately 39.8% were.

This officially ends my history facts.

Week Thirteen
William Carey is called the “father of modern missions.”  He was a Baptist minister in England and he formed one of the first mission organizations not associated with the “High Church” or state colonization.  The organization he founded was called the Particular Baptist Society for Propagating the Gospel amongst the Heathen.

Week Twelve
Churches participated in the “red scare,” of the 1920s, that swept through America.  Supposed communists and subversive people were rounded up and charged with crimes against their country.  When convicted, they were forced to leave the country.  The famous evangelist Billy Sunday felt the deportation was to soft a punishment and suggested they face a firing squad instead.

Week Ten
King James I of England was the son of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland.  He was King James VI of Scotland before inheriting the throne of England from Elizabeth.  His mother was a Catholic.  His predecessor, Queen Elizabeth of England, was a religious moderate who allowed both Catholics and Protestant Calvinists freedom of worship.  King James was a homosexual, frivolous, and self-absorbed.  He attempted to continue religious moderation but conflicts between the sides broke out.  The king called a conference because of the problems, but no common ground was found, and the only achievement of the conference was the commission of a new translation of the Bible known as the 1611 King James Version.
