Did you see the Parade poll, “Should homeschooling be illegal?” You can vote by visiting http://www.parade.com and click on What’s New: Taught at Home or go directly to http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2008/edition_06-01-2008/Intelligence_Report . The negative slant of their quoted “expert” is absolutely ridiculous. Richard Kahlenberg says the debate over homeschooling “pits those who believe parental rights are paramount against those who place a premium on well-educated citizens.” Hmm, all of the homeschool parents that I know DO place a premium on well-educated citizens! If you scroll down to the bottom of that page you can read the many comments or leave one of your own.

P.S. I just looked up Richard Kahlenberg and he’s the author of Tough Liberal: Albert Shanker and the Battles Over Schools, Unions, Race, and Democracy and All Together Now: Creating Middle-Class Schools Through Public School Choice as well as an editorial promoting teacher’s unions in which he says “Despite the myriad criticisms of teacher unions, their abolition would be a huge loss for supporters of public education -- and for the American labor movement as a whole.” So I guess it’s obvious where he’s coming from!
