With extra exclamation points (!!!!) thrown in to make it look especially exciting! So, here goes...!
We're moving along with our e-Iditarod project. J has been doing some worksheets on Alaska, we have our race route marked on a map, and we've chosen the musher that we're going to follow during the race, Katrina Pawlaczyk. And thanks to the wonders of Netflix, we've watched several documentaries about Alaska, including one that followed several mushers during the 1999 race. We have several other projects planned before the race starts -- working on our lapbooks and building a sled from popsicle sticks. (Popsicle sticks -- the best friend of a homeschool mom who is less-than-crafty. )
Today we're going to work on a map of Russia that will be displayed at our church during next week's mission conference. Matt was a sweetheart and copied an outline of Russia for us, so we just have to fill in the major cities, and add some other festive touches.
And as for which kid is doing what right now...
J:
Read-alouds: The School Story (just starting today)
Reader: Marco Polo
History: reading about Marco Polo and the far East around 1400.
Science: starting Saturn today.
Bible: finished the first devotion book for his Patch the Pirate class.
Math: subtracting 4-digit numbers using borrowing.
Writing: learning how to write one paragraph on a topic.
S:
Phonics: learning about 2-consonant blends -- but is actually reading much more complicated words. His eading skills suddenly exploded over the last month.
Speech: working on his L sounds.
Math: counting backwards.
Add in lots of story-reading, some educational videos, trips to the library, our PE coop, taekwondo class, astronomical science experiments, and -- that's school right now!
