Astronomy Narration -- Saturn

Here is J's narration for our astronomy lesson on Saturn:

Saturn has rings around it.  The rings were first discovered by Galileo in 1610.  His telescope wasn’t very strong, and he couldn’t tell what the rings were.  Another scientist named Christian Huygens used a stronger telescope and realized that there were rings.  Saturn is titled like Earth, so they both have seasons.  Saturn is a little smaller than Jupiter, but it’s the second biggest planet in the solar system.

Saturn is a lot like Jupiter.  It is a gaseous planet and is made up mostly of hydrogen and helium gas.  The temperature on Saturn is usually 300 degrees below zero.  Just like Jupiter, the core of Saturn gives off heat.  Saturn has very violent winds and storms.  Saturn is the only planet that is less dense than water.

There are thousands of rings around Saturn.  They’re made up of dust, ice and rocks.  Some of the rocks are very small and some are very big.  Some people believe that a comet crashed into one of Saturn’s moons and created the rings.  Others believe that the rings used to be asteroids that got too close to Saturn.  There are shepherd moons inside the rings that keep pieces of the rings from flying off into space.  The two most-famous shepherd moons are called Pandora and Prometheus.  It takes Saturn 30 earth years to orbit the sun one time.
