Jan. 17, 2006 - Lesson on Listining

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't been posteing in such a long time. Thanks for all your comments!

My cousin Marissa and I have the same "Keys For Kids" devotional. Today we read it together over the phone. My aunt, Marissa's mom, put me on speakerphone so their whole family could hear me. I read Proverbs 1:7-9, and Proverbs 6:20-23. This is what the verses said.

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck."

I think sometimes I can be a fool. It is important to remember this, because you are obeying God when he said in Exodus 20:12 to honor your parents. And it feels nice when you obey your parents, too.

"My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life..."

Marissa read the story "Lesson on Listining" over the phone. That was the story part of our devotional. The devotional story was about listining to  your parents. It is very, very important to listin to your parents.

Dec. 28, 2005 - What I Read Today In The Bible

Today I read this passage in the Bible: Matthew 5:1-10. Here is what I read:

"Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them saying:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
 Blessed are those who mourn,
      for they will be comforted.
 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
      for they will be filled.
 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
      for they will see God.
 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

I thought that it was neat that if you are a peacemaker, you will be called sons of God. When I read this, I thought that it was really cool. I thought it was also great that those who show mercy will be shown mercy. My other favorite part in this passage was that if you are sad, you will be comforted. Here is a little story of something that happened to me that made me sad, and then I was comforted.

I love to catch lizards. I had one special lizard we caught by a river, and he had no tail. I named him Louey. One day, I let Louey go in my backyard, since he was a wild lizard. I was sad to do this. Here are two pictures of me letting Louey and his friend go.

(Louey is the smaller lizard in the second picture.) The next day, while I was looking for more lizards, I saw Louey! I caught him. A while later, I released Louey again. But the next week, I caught Louey for the third time! God keeps bringing my special lizard, Louey, back.

A few days ago, I let Louey go for the last time. If you know anything about lizards, you know that they love the heat, and blue-belly lizards like Louey bury themselves for the winter. Maybe next summer God will let me find Louey again, with his tail almost grown back!

In this story, I was sad, but then I was comforted.

I do not have Louey now, but for Christmas I got a lepoard gecko that I will never have to let go! Here are some pictures of my brand-new gecko! Her name is Lizzy.
