Aug. 20, 2006 - Our Weekly Plan for Kindergarten

Posted in Scheduling

We are still fine tuning this, but here is what we are working on for now:

Daily

Bible

Character

Memory work

Math

Handwriting

Phonics

Poetry

Read Aloud

Sign Language

Play outside!

We do this Monday to Friday.  My husband's day off is Monday so we may drop something in order to spend more time with him.  Our lessons are very short so we can still play and do other things.

Added to the daily subjects are:

Monday

Art Appreciation - How to use Child-size Masterpieces

Music

Tuesday

World History - History Stories for Children, by Dr. John W. Wayland

Art - practical

Wednesday

Nature Study - Read from Christian Liberty Nature Reader or My Big Backyard Magazine.  Also look up that which interests us on the internet.

Thursday

American History - Abeka, My America

Music

Friday

Nature walk

Personal Journal - dictate to mom

I have mentioned before that we began two weeks early so that we could ease into things.  This has worked out well.  The first week we just did the basics: Bible, character, math, handwriting, phonics, read aloud (which included poetry).  During week two we added nature study, art appreciation and history.  I still want to add in music and sign language.  We have not made an entry in our personal journal yet.  I may do this later today so I can have her first impressions of this school thing we are doing!

To keep records I am using Lindafay's idea.  Click here and let her tell you about it.  She also has a link to a blank copy that you can print out.  It is very simpe and easy.  I like that!

Remember - these lessons are SHORT!  Usually 15 minutes.  Except for phonics, it takes a little longer to sound everything out!

Aug. 20, 2006 - Hullo!

Lindafay is wonderful, I get so much from reading her blog. I just wanted to let you know that you can view the signature I made for you at MammaDesigns here.

Also, if you want it changed, no problem. Hey, that sparked an idea! How about you teach us a little Aussie lingo? Maybe an Aussie word of the week? That would be original.

Good schedule as far as I can see, it's wonderful that you'll stop school for your dh.

I like the way you cover the basics every day and add in the rest through out the week. It's not so overwhelming this way!
