Sep. 9, 2006 - My Little Chatterbox

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

My daughter talks non stop! I’m sure many of you are experiencing the same thing.

SugarBean is 5 and talks from morning until night. Sometimes my ears get a little weary. However, it is truly a blessing to be the one at home hearing her thoughts - not a school teacher or another parent...but me, her mother!

Here is a snippet of conversation from a few days ago. We were painting our "school" cabinet and she was allowed to help....

"It is so great to paint something REAL. Not just a picture on paper, but something REAL!"

" Mommy, I just breathed in some of the fumes. Just a little bit, not enough to kill me.

Then you would be sad wouldn’t you? If I died.  One of your kids...that you love.

One of your loved kids."

I don’t know why I put any kind of punctuation in there - it is really just one long sentence with pauses for taking a breath!

Although I know my ears need a rest sometimes.....it is important to savor the moments.  I will miss that sweet voice when she grows up and moves out one day.

I SO have the same thing going on at my house. Sometimes it really feels like it's incessant. Even when she's on her "quiet time", my daughter is talking non-stop to her doll or some stuffed animal, or to herself. Goodness! As much as I love my little chatterbox, it is a bit much at times! :D

I hope all is well your way. I understand about needing a rest for tired ears. I have picked non word music for this very reason, for example Classical Music. I need something relaxing w/o words. lol. God Bless.

My 5 year old is narrating to me about the contents of her leap pad holder which was in disarray. She too never closes her mouth for very long! My ears need a break sometimes. The thing I think about is that if she were in school she would be in trouble constantly for talking too much! She would drive her teacher nuts!

Oh, do I ever know what you mean about talking non-stop. My little girl, age 8, does too. My ears get VERY weary. Not only does she talk but follows me all day long.

I am trying to remind myself that this is the time when bonding takes place. This business of communication means we talk on her level too, not just mine. I should feel very thankful that she wants to spend so much time with me.

I'm still working on my own attitude about this!

I can't stop laughing! My dd6 did the same thing until we taught her "quiet time". The trick is not to request it too often. I think with age we find that we can be "still" and not have the need to talk so much- she's just got so much to tell you! You're right about savoring it, it'll be gone before both you and I know it.

Thanks for the laugh Stacy

Your son will probably speak in grunts and sound effects when he wants to share something. He will have a best friend but not know his name and he will more than likely have to have thoughts drawn out of him like getting a bucket of water from a very deep well. Be thankful for your Chatterbox, she will probably tell you more about your son than he will. Hee hee! God's perfect balance.....? Perhaps.
