Oct. 7, 2006 - Want to see our School Room?

Posted in Daily Living

I do enjoy seeing others "school" spaces...so here is ours:

At the moment we are living in a home provided by the church here (my husband is the assistant minister).  It is, by far, the nicest place we have ever lived.  We are truly blessed.  The school room was once the master bedroom.  We moved down the hall when baby #2 was born so we could all be in the same section of the house.  The school room is also our guest room. That is why we have the bed in there. It is nice for snuggling up to read on too.  We don't have a table...but should soon.

While we don't do all our studying in here, it is nice to have a place to keep all our stuff!

Maps are great for impromptu geography lessons!
The red cabinet took me forever to paint.  It is made of cheap wood and the paint didn't hold very well.  But I still like it.

Isn't this floating bookshelf cool!?!

This BIG bookshelf is crazy and has taken on a life of it's own.  I'm only sharing it with you so you can see real homeschool troubles!  Cleaning it up is a top priority - if only I could find the time.

We love the chalkboard and the "Do Your Best!" Banner.  It is by Susan Winget.

The quilt came from Domestications.com

So there you have it.

Your schoolroom looks great! I love the red cabinet, in the picture you can't tell it's cheap wood and the paint didn't adhere well. It looks wonderful!! I really enjoy seeing everyone's school spaces! We do most of our work either at the dining room table, on the couch or on the deck!! Hmmm...that gives me a great idea for a post!!
Blessings

Oct. 7, 2006 - I really love baskets and plastic containers...

Posted by Mamma1420
to keep me organized! I put all my math manipulatives in one plastic box- and put loose items in ziploc bags, separated. This makes it easy to find the play money when we need it! No, I didn't separate the dimes, pennies etc.

I know all about parsonage living, that rooms looks pretty big though! I love the floating bookshelf!!! That is so cool, I did a double take until I read about it. We just added a bookcase in our bedroom today and it's the $29.99 version from Walmart but it's housing books that were stuffed into drawers, closets, stacked on the floor, etc. I have empty space now! If you haven't seen it, here's my former formal parsonage living room/ now a learning room! Our pictures

I think the only thing I worry about moving is what kind of space will we have? Will the kids have a great backyard like they have now? Will I have a room that I can transform into our learning room? eeek- I've posted a whole post in your comments, sorry!

Leaving now

What a lovely room to homeschool in! It really looks nice. I know what you mean about big book shelves. My kids seem to have an aversion to putting their books back on the shelves correctly. I'm constantly nagging about this and I get tired of hearing myself! But I praise the Lord we have so many books to put on shelves. So I'll keep working at training my kids to "Take 1 book out, replace it when you are done". They love it when I fail to do this! Enjoy your wonderful room! (Love the red cabinet!)

We did school at our kitchen table at home. I'm loving having an actual room dedicated to school here. I think we're going to have to revamp when we get back to Texas to allow for that. Yours looks great. I love the floating bookshelf. LOL!

Your school area looks very nice.
I hope you are enjoying your Thanksgiving Unit Study. Last year, we did the Thanksgiving Lapbooks from Hands of a Child (also available at Homeschool E-store)~ my girls had alot of fun making them.

I will try later this week to post some pictures of our school room! I love the bed in the room to for reading. In our first parsonage we only had one girl. It was two level but very small chopped up/odd shaped rooms! The second parsonage (at the same church; they bought the house next door while we were there) was my dream home! Two story, huge house with big porches! I found that my dream wasn't quite all I had hoped. Of course in my dream I had a maid! :) That house would have had a perfect schoolroom downstairs! Here we are in our own three bedroom double-wide home. We have been able to put all three girls in one bedroom with some modifcation so we can have a classroom. The great thing is that it can be done anywhere if you really want to do it! BTW, I put a comment on your pledge post too!

Thank you for your comment on my blog!
You have a nice school room - it looks big! My family just got a school room a few years ago after many years of doing school in the living room. :-)
God bless, Ashley

Very nice & so neat! :-) By the way, the tea was delicious! I actually still haven't watched the memorial believe it or not. I will though; I will be ready to cry a bit.
