This post is intended mostly for my friends who knew me before I started blogging and read this blog to see what we are doing but may not venture out to other blogs here on Homeschool Blogger. If you are new here or have not read the following post, I encourage you to do so.

I want to point you toward this great article written by Lindafay:

I am trying to homeschool is the way she describes. It is a little scary for me. It seems easier for me to go with textbooks and worksheets. But I'd rather do it this way.

well, i read the article.
I can see her point about needing to use ideas to get kids excited... but isn't that what people do anyways? For instance, you are teaching math and the child says... what do i need to do this for anyways... you tell them. give examples. Show how math is used every day in ways that a person might not normally think of. OR make the lesson more practical and cook dinner with a recipe that needs tweaking. Or if a tools oriented child... do some construction with him/her.
Is too much book-learning problematic? I think so, but children will learn and I suppose a parent teaching their own child knows what helps tweak their interest. Knows what type of things make that child go hey.... I like that. Most any subject can be used can it not to teach most subjects?
I"m just rambling here so I'll be quiet now. :)
