Many of you have probably played the grocery store game where you price few items give your kindergartener or preschooler some pennies and let her shop. We have had fun doing this and it is a great way to learn about money and simple math.
While playing recently my daughter ran out of money and asked for some more. We have enjoyed the book, Super Red Racer: Junior Discovers Work by Dave Ramsey, so she knows the way to get money is by working. Instead of giving her some more I sent her to do a small chore to earn 5 cents. This went on for a while and we got a good amount of cleaning done while learning and playing!! It was fun! Different jobs were worth different amounts and she got the idea that if you want money you have to work for it. After receiving her "pay" she would go and "shop".
The only problem is...she thinks you can just work for your mom! I mentioned something about saving up to go to Australia and she told me to just do a few jobs for my mom and she would pay me. Hee Hee! |
