Jan. 9, 2007 - Friend wanted....

Posted in Family

Have any of you struggled to find friends for your little ones?  It is not that there is a lack of people in our town, just not many who believe in God.  We have a homeschooling group here and I did meet some new families through that - but most of their kids were boys!  I don’t mind my daughter having boys as friends but I want her to have a good girl friend that she can play house with!  Do you know what I mean?
A few families with small children have moved away from the area so our Bible class has dwindled down.  Much of the time it is just my two kids - and guess who is their teacher ...ME!
She does have some great friends who are also homeschooled - but they live in California!  It is nice to see them when we go to visit family.  I am planning to put pictures of them on my daughters picture board and have her write letters on a regular basis.
She does enjoy her little brother (most of the time) and she has me to hang out with.  I know those are good things.  I don’t want her to have too much interaction with kids her own age - I do want her to have a good friend though.
Well....just sharing.  Leave me a note if you have experienced this.
I’m praying that God will bring a friend our way.
I can see where having a big family helps with this!!

I totally sympathize with you. For a long time we have felt like an "Island". No real friends around us. The friends we did have that were christians, weren't homeschoolers, so we didn't have a whole lot in common. Just this past year God has given us the opportunities to meet other christian homeschoolers in our area, and the friendships are growing. I hate the feeling of being the lone homeschooling family in your community. We prayed for a long time for God to bring other families into our lives. I pray that He will do the same for you! In the mean time...there is always HSB...right??? hehe!

The Lord bless you!

Stacy I know exactly what you mean and how you are feeling. We're in the same situation. Most of the Christian homeschooled kids Billy's age are girls. We have a nice Christian family next door with a son Harrison's age. Fortunately Billy and Harrison get a long well and enjoy playing together, but a real friend would be great! I keep praying, knowing that God will provide what he needs.
many blessings

I'm in the same situation, Stacy, except I have a 16yos. He has no close friends except his cousins and they don't live here by us. It's sad for me to see. I am praying the Lord will send some friends our way for my children.

I do know what you mean about finding friends. It is so hard. My dd8 found one but they live an hour away so its hard to get together all the time. My son is 6 and still looking. I want them to have friends to play with. There is a neighbor girl next door but definately not the same values. Also had to laugh at you other post about you drama girl. My oldest was like that and she is in drama now. You never know.

I can't help but think that the Lord is raising a generation of children who are not dependent on others and can stand alone in the crowd. Part of that training requires being alone for long seasons.

We are moving! The mildew has overrun our old house. We have finally found a large home that is better in just about every way. I will try not to be too scarce, but the next month is very full.

Have a great day.
