Feb. 2, 2007 - Pretzels!

Posted in Daily Living

Kim from Large Family Logistics recently posted her Pretzel recipe

We LOVE pretzels so decided to give it a try.  We had a great time making them. Our friends came over and joined in the fun.  It was great.

I didn’t get a good picture of our pretzels, but I did get one of the pretzel dogs!

Hubby loved them and requested that we make them again.

We also looked up some information on the pretzel.  Here are a few links:
History of the Pretzel
Pretzel info from Wikipedia
- This one actually shows a painting from the 12th century that has pretzels in it.
Photographs of bakers making pretzels
.

While it is not clear when and where the pretzel was invented it is widely believed that a monk experimenting with bread dough created them in about 610AD.  He twisted the dough to form what a shape which represented a child’s arms folded in prayer.  They were used as rewards for those children who had memorized their prayers and verses.  The monks called it “Pretiola” which is Latin for “little reward”.  Cute!

I don’t think I’ll ever see the pretzel in the same light again

So where's the recipe? : ) Really...where's the recipe? I tried pretzels once and they didn't turn out like that. Love, love, loved the poem! I'm glad you got to go back home, that must have been refreshing.
