Over the past few years I have been on the looking for good books. Books that will introduce my children to the world of reading and cause them to fall in love with it.
Until last year I had not heard about being selective when it comes to books for little ones. Of course I would never read them stories that were inappropriate, but I had not thought about twaddle. Online dictionaries define Twaddle as "foolish, silly or idle talk or writing".
Some books have very little worth. Charlotte Mason talked about the importance of choosing good books for our children. Books that will prepare them to read challenging literature in the future. Ones that bring about beautiful thoughts and pictures. I encourage you to read the criteria for choosing books at Ambleside online. By clicking here you can read about book selection and also see a list of recommended books for Pre-school and under (otherwise known as Year 0).
I am not a Charlotte Mason expert (I hope to be), so please forgive my inadeqacy. My best effort has been made to keep our books twaddle-free - though I'm sure some has snuck in. Here is a list of some of our favorite books.
Please feel free to add your favorite books for babies and toddlers in the comments section (I would love that )
You should be able to click on all the books in this list to view them on Amazon.com
(Many of these books have been read since infancy and are still well loved by my 2 year old and also my 5 year old for that matter)
