May. 12, 2007 - Please pray for my nephew

Posted in Family

I have mentioned before that my sweet nephew is autistic. He has made some great strides over the past year and we are all really proud of him.  His name is Aidan.

He recently went to see a great doctor who specializes in Autism. They ran lots of tests and found some interesting results: He has serious yeast overgrowth, he cannot absorb vitamin B, and his immune system is attacking his brain in some way which is causing swelling on the brain. He also has high levels of lead, arsenic and mercury in his system.  He just turned 5 years old.

This last week they started some medication to get rid of the yeast and also take the swelling in his brain down. He may become quite ill while this is going on. So far he is doing fine.

Please pray that all this will help him and not harm him. His family is doing all they can to help him. He has a dedicated mommy and daddy and also very involved grandparents. He is a bright little boy and we are hoping that all this will benefit him greatly.

Thanks so much.

Stacy

We will be praying! Just wanted to let you know about the program called TOMATIS. It is a wonderful OT/sensory program that is doing wonders for children with autism and/or brain damage. In just 9 sessions my son (5) has become a different kid and everyone I talk to has seen amazing results. Best yet is my son can't wait to go each time.

Thank you so much for your nice comments on my blog! I love to knit and sew and all sorts of stuff!!!
I am SO tired after a super long day, but checked your blog out a bit and this post caught my eye. My son's name is Aidan (I'm usually anonymous with my children's names, but had to comment here) and he is turning 5 this July. I am so sorry to hear about your nephews struggles with Autism. Tugs on my heart strings having a son that same age. I hope I don't sound offensive in any way... but have they linked his autism to vaccines at all? By the sounds of the high levels of those things found in his system... just made me have to ask. I vaccinated my first 3 children, but then God placed it on my heart to not vaccinate when my 4th was born. She was just "different" as a baby. She used to flail her body backwards and just didn't act the same as my other wee ones. SO when it came time for her 2 month shots, after God speaking to my heart for weeks, the night prior I got a call from a close friend about a homeschool group that had been cancelled. When I told her about my daughter's appt... she asked "is it for vaccines???" and when I said yes she said "have you ever considered NOT vaccinating???" and I said "God has answered my prayers through you. YES... I have been crying out to Him to let me know if I should and your call has just reinforced our decision!!!" It has been over 3 years... and another baby later and we have stopped ALL vaccinations and boosters on ALL the children. My daughter grew out of her "different" behavior and is strong and healthy. I feel so peaceful about out decision!! If they ever HAVE to get vaccines to go overseas or what have you... I will feel better just knowing they will get them only once they have strong adult bodies to handle them.
OK... I have rambled... but I just feel that God brought me to your site tonite for a reason and I wanted to make sure to share with you. I will be praying for Aidan! God love him. Love, Bridget

Thanks so much for your sweet comments about my nephew. He really is a great little boy - very funny and super cute too.

We all truly appreciate your prayers on his behalf!

We have really thought a lot about the vaccines as a cause for autism and do think it had a lot to do with it. I vaccinated my first child and did some with my second. We thought it would be ok without the mercury but it is still scary. I know better now. My mother-in-law (who I love) practically begged me not to do anymore. It was right at the time when the MMR is given and that is the one when many parents see a change in their children. I agreed not to - but when I got home and checked his records, he had already had it :( I watched him closely and was so afraid - but he is fine. My nephew was a normally developing child until around 18 months. It is really painful to see things just go away. He would sing "This little light of mine" and other short songs. He could say my daughter's name and was just a happy guy. After a while it was all gone. He is speaking more now. It has taken a lot of time and a lot of hard work.

There are other factors besides the vaccinations. They are trying to figure out where the lead came from. His doctor, who specializes in this sort of thing, said she has only seen lead this high in four other patients. So it is really high. We are getting our water tested for lead. They actually lived with us for a few weeks right as all this was beginning. I want to pass the information on to them as well as keep things safe for my children.

Another factor may be his birth. It was very traumatic. He was a big baby and his mother birthed him naturally. He broke his collar bone on the way out and was actually passed out at birth. A few days later he had a large bruise on his head...not sure if that was head trauma. Her doctor said it was fine. And they watched him closely and he was developing normally and seemed to be OK. I’m pretty sure the doctors pumped him with antibiotics and other stuff right after birth too.

He has been through so much. He really is doing well. It is such a huge task for his mother to keep up with him and work with him on so many things. But she is doing it. And she is doing a great job. They moved close to her parents which are a great help.

He finished the medicine that was supposed to kill the yeast and he did very well. He didn’t get sick.

Thanks again,
Stacy
