Jun. 18, 2007 - Homemade Butter

Posted in Homemaking

Today we made our own butter!  Just pour heavy cream into a jar, put the lid on, and shake!

We took turns shaking.  I think my son may be a pessimist at the ripe old age of two because he shook the jar about three times and said, "Oh...it's not working".

It didn't take very long.  Here are our results:

And we had to have some on toast.  Yum!

Then we watched a little video, made by kids, all about the science behind the whole thing.  Pretty cute.

WoW! I am totally amazed at how AWESOME you are! Those desserts look so DELICIOUS, what a great job you did for your friend.

The butter... is it cheaper than store bought? and healthier? Just curious! It looks good.

Another ? for you... what are you like SUPERMOM? :0) I love how you always include your kiddos in the process of each meal... you really encourage me Stacy. I think that I am going to try to include my kids more in my cooking giving them something that they can do at each meal. I know they will LOVE it and I can deal with the possible messyness and slowness.

JOYfully in Him,

My daughter made butter the same way. We added a pinch of salt to the finished product. It sure is a neat "experiment"!

Glad to read that your catering/desserts went so well. The Black Forest cake looks fabulous!

I've been meaning to make butter this way with my daughter - thanks for the reminder. I did this as a kid and thought it was the best butter I'd ever tasted! My sons and I also did this years ago but I know they've forgotten. I think we added a bit of salt for flavor.

I just caught up on your posts and I wanted to say, "Congratulations" for how well the catering event went! I can imagine how hard it must have been, all that baking while caring for two youngsters. I like to bake but it's so hard when the kids are all around. I prefer baking alone but I also know they need to learn and observe so I do both. But not very often (hanging my head in shame!) I'm glad it's over for you but I hope that good feeling lasts. Nicely done!

God bless,
Kate

You inspired me last time to bake after seeing your mouthwatering pictures (we made Danishes) and I feel the urge hitting me again! Love your pics!
