Jun. 23, 2007 - New Books on the wishlist!

Posted in Homemaking

It is really satisfying to make your own "products".  Cleaning supplies, lotions, clothing etc.  I am only just beginning and have a lot to learn!   I wanted to share some books I found recently that I yearn to own

Let me know if you have read any of them!

You can click on the titles to go through to amazon.com and read more about each book if you wish.

Jun. 23, 2007 - I have

Clean House, Clean Planet by Karen Logan, and I like it a lot - so does my mom. We're going to make up a couple of the recipes again this week, as with everything that's been going on around here we both ran out and have been cleaning both houses with mostly straight vinegar and baking soda - which do the job, but the cleaners in the book are much nicer to use and smell.

I've seen Organic Housekeeping - our library has it, and I was not impressed. It has a lot of information, but it wasn't practical for my situation - lots of the things they tell you to do are VERY expensive.

I've not used or read any of the books listed, and I have not made my own body care products...but when it comes to cleaning I have found that now book has been needed (for me anyway). Maybe I am oversimplifying. hehe But I just use vinegar and baking soda. Clean glass, mirror and faucets, door knobs etc? Vinegar. Mopping? Diluted vinegar. Scrubbing the tub, toilet or sink? Baking soda. Need a non-toxic fabric softener? 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup vinegar added to rinse cycle or downey ball. Laundry booster? Baking soda works fantastic! Cleaning pet dishes? Baking soda! Wiping down appliances? Diluted vinegar works wonders! LOL Plus baking soda and vinegar are cheap cheap cheap. I also sometimes add a little grapefruitseed extract and/or tea tree oil to my vinegar spray or 'mop' water for extra germ fighting power. I will look forward to adding to my arsenal in the future if you share some tidbits from any of these books! =0)

Don't you just love books? Goodness gracious! I really need to sign up with our library to cut back on my ownership! Let us know if you read any of these booksand what you think!

How funny I just saw Organic Housekeeping at a bookstore today and made a mental note to get that book. All those others look great to and have been mentally noted as well!!

Thanks for all the great titles; they have been duly written down, and I'll be checking the library first chance I get. :)

A book I love, and purchased off Amazon for under $3, is called Folk Wisdom for the Natural Home by Beverly Pagram.

Have a wonderful week!
