This week I wanted to share two books that are special to our family.
Because my sweet nephew suffers with autism I really wanted us to have a better understanding of what he goes through on a daily basis. I want my kids to be compassionate, understanding and patient with him.
The following books help us do that. In fact, the first book could be describing him in many ways.
I hope that more and more people will take the time to educate themselves about autism. It is growing at an alarming rate.
It would be wonderful if everyone would read a little about it. Perhaps that would help us all look with a different eye when we see a mother struggling with a 5 year old who is throwing a fit. Perhaps we can lend a hand, or share a smile, instead of thinking they have an undisciplined child (I'm not meaning to sound harsh - I am guilty too).
I don't pretend to know what my sister-in-law goes through every day. I know it's hard. But with a little education, I can gain a tiny bit of perspective and therefore be more understanding.
