Oct. 11, 2008 - Living Simply Saturdays

Simple living is becoming more and more appealing to me.  As I cleaned out my closet a few weeks ago, my frustration grew as I realized how much time and money I have spent on stuff!

Moving stuff around, organizing stuff, looking for things amongst my stuff,...it’s such a waste of time.  Time I could spend doing other things: Bible study, sewing, playing with the kids...this list is endless.

Of course we do need some stuff.  But a lot less than most of us have and a lot less than most of us think we need.

I cleared out a few garbage bags full of clothing from my closet.  It has been 3 weeks since then, and I have not missed any of it.  My husband and I share a closet, it’s not large, so that helps me to have less...since I don’t want to spend money on more storage!

Since this is my first post about simple living, I am rambling a bit.  There are many areas I want to work on to make my home a happy and peaceful place, and my life a lot less complicated.  Some of the things I am thinking about are:

  • Get clothing ready for Wednesday night Bible study in the morning.
  • Get everything ready for Sunday morning the night before.
  • Do major grocery shopping once a month, then weekly for fresh produce, milk and cheese.
  • Continue to get rid of stuff!
  • Finish organizing the kitchen - I spent a few hours on this last night and will finish it today.  I have tossed a few items and put a few of the rarely used ones in the garage.  It is does not made simple living any easier when you have to dig for an appliance!
  • Simplify food prep - I recently watched Raw Food Made Easy(which was awesome) and was encouraged to spend a little time on the weekend preparing dressings and cutting veggies for the week ahead.  This is very helpful when you are striving to eat a lot of fresh veggies.  I also plan to implement a baking day once week.

That is what is on my mind at the moment.  I hope to write more about each item mentioned as I work on that area.

Be sure to visit Keeper of the Home to join the Living Simply carnival.

Have a lovely day,

Oct. 12, 2008 - HI STACY!

I have missed you and reading your blog so much! First of all, I am back on the blogs so I am looking forward to catching up with you! Secondly, I saw you on the TOS crew board and wanted to let you know I am doing that too! And finally, I am right with you on the need to simplify life! A major decluttering project is tops on my list of projects I just blogged about. I love the living simply Saturday idea!
Glad to see you again!
Blessings,
Jen

I haven't been around here much lately, but your new design looks beautiful! :)

Decluttering really does make a difference, doesn't it? I did a lot of it this spring and summer, trying to get rid of stuff around the house. I was so pleased to get it all out, and now I find myself constantly thinking "what else can I get rid of?". LOL! I also like your ideas for planning ahead, to be more prepared and reduce the stress of certain activities/days. I really want to be more diligent with getting ready for Sunday morning on Saturday nights. It helps so much when I just plan ahead and do it.
