This seems silly to say, but I am really grateful for the internet!

Of course there can be draw backs to the internet, and it must be used wisely, but there are many, many benefits.

For example, just tonight, my sister (who lives in Australia) emailed me to ask for a cobbler recipe she could make for our Dad when she has him for dinner later in the week.  I sat down and typed up two of our favorites and sent them off.  They get there INSTANTLY....I know this is nothing new, but it is so great!

There have even been times when my sister and I are on the phone and we are talking about a recipe,  a dress we are thinking about buying, something we are interested in and would like to show the other.  We both get on-line and look it up, then we can look at it together and talk about it.  This just helps so much.  Being so far away, I appreciate these little things we can do.  One of the things I greatly miss is being able to do everyday things together.  This makes it feel a little like we are doing some of those things....shopping together, comparing recipes...

Another reason I love the internet is because I live in a small town.  There are some things you just can't get here.  But you can order anything online...and most of it from my favorite place: Amazon.com!  With Free shipping.  Oh it is so nice.  The last two years I have tried to do most of my Christmas shopping online...it is great to avoid the crowded mall.

One last reason, we can use the internet to make us smarter (oh that sounds so silly).  There are many questions my children have that I just don't know the answers to.  I probably would forget to look them up at the library, but now I can just use google.  I use the internet to learn so many things...cooking tips, homeschooling, researching a new car purchase...the list goes on.

So there...that is what I am grateful for...silly as it may be!

Oct. 13, 2008 - You aren't silly at all

Hi!

I really enjoyed your post and agree! My 17 year old daughter is presently in New Zealand on a 3 month long mission trip and I live for her email updates.

We also have dear friends in France whom we can "chat" with on a regular basis and lets not forget the beauty of Skype. You have to LOVE free long distance, international, internet phone calls!

What would we do without the internet? Weigh down the mail people and wait and wait to hear from loved ones I suppose. I'm just so glad we don't have to.

See you on the review board!

The internet is a great tool. It is how a person uses it that determins the good and bad. I really agree with you. I keep up more with family than I ever did before we got a computer. Great post. Have a great day!

The internet is definitely a blessing! I know when we were stationed in Japan it was nice to be able to communicate via webcam and see family and instant message. We still live several states away from family, so it is definitely an asset. My son just asked me if he could go look something up on the internet - why does a snake molt? :)

Have a great day!

Oct. 14, 2008 - I think that is great!

I don't think it is silly at all, because we are VERY blessed to have the internet! I think about the letters between John and Abigail Adams, and how difficult and arduous it was to get them back and forth, and how long they had to wait to hear from each other. What a blessing now that soldiers can email thier wives nightly from across the world! Or that we can meet homeschooling moms from all over the world and form friendships where we encourage each other. It really has connected the larger body of Christ, too, I think!
I, too, am thankful for the internet :)
Love,
Jen
