Dec. 18, 2008 - Core Learning - Crayola Art Studio Review

We recently had the opportunity to review a great computer art program by Core Learning: Crayola Art Studio.

Crayola Art Studio is a digital draw and paint program that is easy and fun to use.  My children, 7 and 4 years old, love it.  I like it too!  In fact, I believe kids of all ages would enjoy this program.

Kids can create their own unique art designs by using the 12 realistic art brushes. The brushes look just like real crayola pencils, paints, markers, and crayons.  The effects are great.  Over 1000 images are also available for use.

This program is extremely user friendly.  A digital activity guide is included, giving step-by-step instructions for many drawing and painting techniques.  Besides creating original artwork, budding artists can also import photos, scans or web graphics.

My children immediately got to work creating their own designs.  It was very enjoyable.  They were so pleased that we could save them too.

Crayola Art Studio is available for $24.95 from Core-Learning.  A decent price for this product.

Core-Learning also produces a number of educational software products, books, multi-curricular projects and on-line learning programs.  I was able to preview samples of math, language arts, and health software.  All of them seem to be quite good.  I learned a lot from the Language Arts program.  The kids really enjoyed the Health series - an interactive and exciting program in which kids learn about the body.  I like this too, except for the fact that one of the characters wore a shirt which showed her midriff.  The information was good, but this was certainly a draw back for me.

These programs seem very thorough.  They are easy to use and could be extremely helpful to a homeschool program.

“Core Learning's mission is to provide effective learning solutions for the development of fundamental knowledge and skills. Its primary focus of skill development is in areas that both support higher order thinking but also provide important life skills. Products address key elementary and middle school curriculum areas in math, English language arts, health, art, and technology. Core Learning also publishes software to help develop critical thinking skills and maintain mental processing capabilities in young and mature adults.”

The products I have reviewed certainly seem to fit with this mission statement.  If your family enjoys utilizing technology and computer learning, you will most likely enjoy the programs offered by core learning.
