In Their Own Words

Share your children’s home education experience in their own words. What have they said about their education? What are their likes and dislikes? Share some stories, some quotes, or turn your blog over to your children for the day.

When I asked my six year old daughter what she thought about homeschooling, she said:

“I like learning at home.

I don’t think it would be fun learning at school.  If I went to school it would take longer and I’d be away from you for a long time.

Sometimes it takes less time because you only have to teach two people instead of all kinds of people.

I like learning about math - you get better at paying attention.

When I cook, it’s actually a bit more fun than sitting at a desk.  I like to cook with mom.  I like to be the kitchen assistant.  It is very fun.  When I do it, I feel like a good help.  I feel good when I help.”

When I asked her to describe what she didn’t like she said the following:

“Well...sometimes when I mess up a word in math or reading I get frustrated, but when you help me I feel better.”

That is the extent of our conversation.  However, sometime last year Sugarbean told me that when she found a man to marry she would ask him if he wanted to homeschool the kids.  If he said no, she would just find another man to marry!

I think she likes homeschooling.

Apr. 13, 2007 - Quote from Little Mister

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

My Little Mister must be getting spoiled!  You know his Grandma and Great Grandma have been here for over two weeks!  We have been having a wonderful time.  Maybe too much fun for my 2 year old (not really).

Today he threw a HUGE fit.  What?  My sweet little guy!   Yes he did.  After it was over his Grandmother talked with him and said something like, "That makes Mommy sad", or "It upsets Mommy, when you act that way".  Do you know what he said?     "That Happens"   My two year old said, "That Happens"  He said it in the sweetest little voice too.     What a naughty little thing

Another funny thing happened a few days ago......he knocked on the door leading to the kitchen.  He then opened it wide and said, "It's ME, isnt it?!"  What a goofy guy.  Gotta love him.

Mar. 28, 2007 - Words of wisdom

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

A few days ago my 5 year old daughter said,

"Mommy,  I want to grow up and be a good person, so don't give me everything I want"

I was so surprised!!

She doesn't get everything she wants.  I'm glad she knows it's good for her

Feb. 7, 2007 - A little converstaion...

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

This morning my daughter informed me that when she grows up and has children she wants to homeschool them!

“How wonderful!”  I said, “I hope you will”.

Then I decided to add, “You will have to look for a Christian husband who wants to homeschool too”

She replied, “I’ll ask him, ‘Do you want to homeschool the kids?’.  If he says ‘No’, then I’ll look for someone else”

What a girl!!!

Nov. 11, 2006 - Quotes from SugarBean

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

My little SugarBean is always saying funny things. I really need a notebook on the counter so I can write it all down! A few days ago I shared about her wanting to see me go crazy!!! Well, here are three other quotes from my funny girl.....

(Just incase you forgot, she is 5 years old)

After listening to me read the Bible to her at breakfast, she said:

"I’ll read the Bible to my kids. I’ll get one like the one you got me and I’ll say, ‘My Mommy got me this when I was a little girl’. Then I’ll read them a chapter and I’ll tell them I’m a Christian if I am."

The same morning she also said,

"I want to go to heaven and see it. This is a beautiful world He made, but there is even better."

Last but not least...

"Mommy, your prayers for me are working. God is helping me!"

She’s pretty cool don’t you think?

Oh, and for some reality......When I asked her if she would like to have a little sister or brother...she said, "I'd really like a cat"

Nov. 8, 2006 - Kid Quote

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

Yesterday my kids cried and whined ALL day.  I don't know what was going on.  It was absolutely ridiculous!

At one point I said, "Your crying is driving me crazy!" (As soon as it came out of my mouth I wished I had not said it)

My daughter replied (in a very serious and sincere voice), "I'd like to see that.  I'd like to see you go crazy.  Do it if you want to."

Thanks a lot!!

Sep. 9, 2006 - My Little Chatterbox

Posted in SugarBean and Little Mister Quotes

My daughter talks non stop! I’m sure many of you are experiencing the same thing.

SugarBean is 5 and talks from morning until night. Sometimes my ears get a little weary. However, it is truly a blessing to be the one at home hearing her thoughts - not a school teacher or another parent...but me, her mother!

Here is a snippet of conversation from a few days ago. We were painting our "school" cabinet and she was allowed to help....

"It is so great to paint something REAL. Not just a picture on paper, but something REAL!"

" Mommy, I just breathed in some of the fumes. Just a little bit, not enough to kill me.

Then you would be sad wouldn’t you? If I died.  One of your kids...that you love.

One of your loved kids."

I don’t know why I put any kind of punctuation in there - it is really just one long sentence with pauses for taking a breath!

Although I know my ears need a rest sometimes.....it is important to savor the moments.  I will miss that sweet voice when she grows up and moves out one day.

About Me

I am an Australian married to an American, currently living in the U.S.A. As a new homeschooling mum, I am learning how to follow God's words in Deut. 6:6-7: "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up."
