I was looking around on YouTube today and found some American soldier tribute videos. They were well done. I was impressed. But when I went to read the comments, I was shocked by the bad things that the commenters were calling our soldiers and the war. I wondered how they could say such rotten stuff after watching the videos. I didn't know whether to scream in rage or weep in anguish. Let's go back in history a bit and see how America is killing herself by not supporting her troops and the war.
The world wars were awful. The mention of them rings names such as the Battle of the Bulge and D-day. Many soldiers and civilans were killed in those wars. But America was behind her troops and behind the war. She cut back on certain things and planted victory gardens so the soldiers would have more supplies. We and our allies won those wars. Our troops came home and there was peace, for a time.
During the Vietnam and Korean wars the anti-war breed sprang up. We pulled out of Vietnam and we pulled out of Korea. Vietnam isn't any better and Korea is on a unstable cease-fire. What happened? Why did we lose? It was the lack of support. It was the people who were hollering for us to get out.
Terrorists enter our country, take flying lessons from our instructors, then turn around and use the skill that we taught them to fly jets into the Twin Towers, then the Pentagon, and if some heros hadn't intervened, maybe flight 92 would have gone into the White House.
I was sitting in front of the TV set watching the first tower burn when the second tower was hit. I saw things that looked like sparks jumping from the upper windows. They were people. They'd gone to work that morning, thinking that it would be a normal day, and ended their lives jumping from a burning building. I watched the towers fall. I saw people fleeing that terrible cloud of dust, and being overcome by it. I saw the devistation afterwards, the terrible carnage.
I was only eight at the time, old enough to understand that many people had just been killed, but not old enough to grasp that what was done the morning of September 11 was a mass murder. The media didn't tell us about it, but in muslim countries, there was dancing in the streets when the news got there. They were happy. Happy that hundreds of innocent Americans had just been murdered. The president declared war. Our troops went in, and have been there for six years, fighting the people who want to blow us all up.
The anti-war protesters say that our troops are being mass killed over in Iraq, that it is the worst death toll since Vietnam. I'm not arguing with that particular statement. But if we pull out, those boys would have died in vain. If we pull out, we will have nothing to show but grave markers and wounds. The terrorists will see us as weak and bring the war to our backyard. There will be fighting in our streets, car bombs in our malls.
The anti-war protesters talk about the Iraqi civilian death toll. Yes, it is a sad thing that the civilians are getting killed. But terrorists do not wear uniforms. They dress like everyone else over there. The soldiers can't tell insurgent from innocent. You can't keep track of every singe bullet that leaves the barrel of your gun when you're in a battle situation. If you're fighting in a city, it is possible that a stray bullet will hit someone you did not intend for it to hit. But who's setting off car bombs in marketplaces? Most of the civilian deaths over in Iraq are caused by terrorists coming in and blowing things up.
I'm glad our troops are over there. If I was a boy and old enough and if my parents would allow it, I would enlist. Go watch some 9/11 footage if you can't figure out why. Get off the streets, stop pasting our soldiers and the war, and go and either join them or support them. Get down on your knees and pray that our troops will keep doing the job that they have been doing. Come out of your world where everything is hunky-dory and look at reality. There are people who hate us. They hate everyone who doesn't agree with them. Let's support the war and our troops and our enemies will get the message that we will not back down. Ever. Only then will things finaly come to and end over there, and then our soldiers will come home.
Until then, troops, we love you. Thank you and Godspeed.
