The Author Tag
Do you have a pen/pencil collection? I have a bunch of holders filled with them all about my room, but I always loose my best ones...
Do you prefer handwriting or typing furiously? I like handwriting, always have, but am forced at sword point to type as the publishers won't take handwritten work :( Life is hard :D
How often do you get inspiration? Ummmmm, well very rarely, I get inspired when I hear a new sad or exciting song, watch LOTR or Narnia, or if it is stormy out, snowy nights when I am out walking, the rain, fog...pictures, but they are rare and far between, often I force, er my characters force me to write. I have to make myself write uninspried
Are you blogging this on a computer or laptop? My laptop, it is nice but has the character of Jefferson
Do you get inspiration more in the early morning or late at night? Either, the sun rising or setting, the stars shinning, the moon glowing, the sun coming up over the mountains, either inspires me
Do certain movies/books/music inspire you? All the music on my playlist, hence why it is there, battle hymns....umm, POTC, Sherlock Holmes, Narnia, The Cooper Kids, Lamplighter books, my friends writings,
How do you incorporate God into your stories? If you are asking this you do not know me too well :D. Being me I am weaving doctern into my books, and armed with a big stick hope to stir up Christians to higher goals and passionate love for our Savior.
Do you kill off your villains or make them repent? Jefferson lives...but does not repent...Black Jack dies, Cluny, er Colton, kills him. Peterson repents
Is the majority of your characters magical beings, humans or halflings? Or something else? Humans, unless it is Jefferson, he is insane and I think he is like a robot Jefferson: *Scowls*
What genre of writing are you most comfortable in? If you were to step out of your comfort zone, what would you write? Hmmm, young adult adventures. Romance wouold be out of my comfort zone though I am doing it for the Isidore books to show godly coartship.
Do you work better alone or with someone else? Either, working with someone is a challenge but also gives you someone to run to when you are stuck, I am working on a book with Theynore and Sarah. But I also enjoy doing it alone, not having to double check every desion with someone, so either
Do your stories make sense, or do they ramble wildly? Well, they do both. Jess rabbles on me like crazy, but I think they make sense
Are your characters mostly Renegades, Peacekeepers or a mish-mash? Hang around me more and you will see. They are renegades, they came to life and order me about, but I like it that way. All but Nate, he is a peacemaker and my true friend, character wise, he is the best!
Are you a sucker for good grammar? Umm, no, I am horrid at it, one of my down falls
How is your handwriting? It looks like I write with all the lights off, but when I get going I dont care about nice hand writing
How evil are your villains? Jefferson isnt evil, I am ashamed of it because he was supposed to be, the others in the Marshall books are. Peterson is more like, misled by his brother, and Black Jack is purely evil, the guy scares me!!!
Are you long-winded or succinct? Both, depends what character is talking at the time, or what I am decribing.
Do you have typical "writer" traits such as inkstains on your fingers or a pencil behind your ear? Yes, the pencil behind my ear is my one talent. The girls in my AWANA JV room are impressed because I am the only one in there that can do it :D. And yes, my pens leak without failing, all pens I use leak on me, so I always have ink on my fingers, I like it though, reminds me of little women. And I chew on my pens, and then I forget and chew on pens people loan me...and I always loose my pen, I think that is a trait
Would someone walking past you on the street consider you normal? They would have before but I gave up and now when I walk I plit and make face, one moment I am smiling about a funny scene, the next frowning about a sad one, then I will scowl when I plot a bad guy scene
Do you write mostly poetry, stories, novels or a mixture? Novels and stores, I am not good at poems
Do your characters vary in accents, appearence and attitude or are they mostly the same? They are very different. All my men were alike, Isidore, Nate, and Colton, so I changed them. Isidore is now gloomy, Colton is a little show off, and Nate is Nate! They all look different and some have accents, I mean listen to Jess sometime!
Do real people and/or places inspire your writing? All of my friends, they have all ended up in my books in one form or other. conversations I over hear, I like catching bits and pieces of them without really knowing what they are talking about :D
How many blogs/websites/internet haunts do you have? Too many to count...yep
What is your favorite character? Or do you choose to remain unbiased in case of a revolt? Nate, I like all the others a lot but Nate and Jessie will always be my most favorate, I mean Jessie was with me before I started writing, she has been in all my early books. And Nate, he has always been like a big brother!
Do you talk to your characters? Do they talk back? Yep, we have odd conversations. Isidore complains non stop, er is always gloomy, Colton brags, Nate whips them into shape...well you have been around to know
Are you more comfortable with girl or boy main characters? I like both, I like making my girls whimpy or brave or in the middle, though if they act like they dont need boy's help they have to learn by the end of the book. Boys are fun as well, I like having both in all my books
Do you follow basic overused plotlines with new twists thrown in or do you depart from the norm all the time? Ido both, I like adding twists in no matter which way I go, I learned this from Cavanaugh. My Marshall books have a lot of the same plot line but with new twists and turns and places and bad guys.
Do you feel God has called you to be a writer/poet? Will you grasp "the power of the pen"? Without a doubt I do, or I would have given up by now, maybe. I use all my wirting for His glory, wither i just tell how they learn to trust Him, or wither I tackle hard issues and doctern. I try and write about the struggles we face in this world and how Christains can face them leaning on God alone. This is mostly done in the Marshall books who, facing all these trails and lose, lean on God through it all. The others face other issues. Colton is unsaved and must learn that though he is not a murder he is just as guilty in God's eyes as the other pirates. Isidore thinks God can never forgive him and thinks that he can get along fine without God, and has to learn to rely on him alone, Isidore's is the hardest. Then there is Jeremy who believes that, since his parents did not love him God can't, and through the Marshall's example learns other wise.
All of my characters have struggles they have to face, wither they are saved or not. Nate has to remember over and over that he can't raise his fmaily without God's help, Jessie has to learn to rely on others and not just herself. Sam is learning to give up his own wants and desires for others, and learning to let his sister have other friends and not be evnious :D. Maddie, sweet Maddie, rarely has struggles because she has leaned at an early age to rely wholely upon God. Jack is struggling with his dad's caner and is having to remember that even in that God is in control and will guide them through.
I find it great fun to find new struggles for my characters, new issues they have to face in each book. In Book two of the Marshalls they have to face fear and remember to rely on God, that He can take their fear. In book three it is greed and the issue of evelution. Book four will probably deal with ghosts, being are they real or not, that would be a good book to bring up that issue.
I am also going to be dealing with free will, election, and angels in other books. As an author I have a rare ability to spred God's message to millions, er, well a few at least. And I want to deal with things they face, and show them from the Bible that our hope is not in ourselves. I am terribly shy, and I believe God gave me this gift as a way to witness, and that is what I plan to do
However I see I was rabbling, though I LOVE rabbling about God!!! He is so good and, I love Him so I love talking about Him...But i have to go get dressed :D bye
Oh and I tag Sarah and Hannah Grace!!!
