FREE Educational Program from the World Wildlife Fund on A Living Planet
Posted in Educational websites
I wanted to share this with all of you : ) The World Wildlife Fund now has a free resource called Schools for a Living Planet that you can join and access tons of neat stuff!
This is what their website describes it as:
WWF-Canada is proud to offer Schools for a Living Planet, an educational program that provides educators with access to over 30 curriculum-linked, printable in-class activities for grades 3 to 8. Each grade’s unit has a unique environmental theme with material carefully designed to meet curriculum expectations in English, Social Studies, and Science.
I had a look at quick look at some of the grade 3 activities and it looks really fun. The unit is called Forests Alive and has a story passage to read, 5 activity sections and bonus activities. Oh yes, very important there is an answer key at the end of each section : )
Activity sections included are:
Life and Life Cycles ~ types of trees, parts of plants, life cycles of plants and animals, life support essentials
Sustainable Forestry ~ forestry, sustainable forestry, forestry and you, connections to the forest, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle
Forestry Frontiers ~ history of forestry, forestry technology (then and now), lumber uses, impact of forestry
WWF-Canada and Our Forests ~ forest conservation, conservation and you, get involved
What You Learned ~ passage review (multiple choice and short answer quiz), and a retelling and imagination portion
I haven't had a chance to check out the other grades but here is the topic list for each one:
Grade 4 ~ Exploring Habitats
Grade 5 ~ Mackenzie Valley
Grade 6 ~ Diversity of Life
Grade 7 ~ Marine Protected Areas
Grade 8 ~ Water
Older children might even benefit by going back to some of the different levels. This is available to everyone.
Check it out at:

Thanks for the resource! I was concerned when I saw it was for Canadian teachers (I'm in the US) but they let me sign with no problems. :)
