I had an old 70ish style needlework pillow kit that was half finished and I had no intentions of finishing it since I just couldn't see myself using it when it was done anyways so I decided to give it to the kids to play around with. K took a liking to it and just look what he has created! The brown, green and white triangles are his ocean (we didn't have any blue yarn) and then above that is the outline of his barge. He's really getting good at working diagonally with the holes and tapered the front of the barge and you can't really tell but the yellow part of the barge is the cabin and he has actually skipped some of the squares in between the yellow stitches for the windows : ) What a great winter time project. I can't wait to see what he adds next.

My son learned to make a quilt last year in co-op. He loved sewing class. I plan to dust off my DH's grandmother's old sewing machine this winter and we are all going to learn to sew. Should be interesting, don't you think? ;-)

What a great idea!
My DD is learning cross stitch, and my DS asked if he could do it , too. I was going to let him...but I like THIS idea even better for him. I think that the larger holes on the plastic canvas would be perfect for his smaller hands.
