Chicken Mummy Pt.4

It's been just about 3 weeks since we last weighed Queen Chick-o-patra. We had decided to leave her in her natron mixture a little longer to see if it would result in a better weigh in but she actually only lost 1 ounce in 3 weeks! On the bright side I think she smelled better this time. LOL.

Our master embalmer K recorded her official weight as 650 grams or 1 pound 7 ounces.

And then we did one more final inspection of her body before we repacked her in the natron mixture for another couple of weeks :) You can see above that some areas have dried and the skin and underlying flesh has thinned out and is letting light through it and her legs have dried quite noticeably. The bones are more prominent and the skin is turning colors a bit. Check back in a couple of weeks for another weigh in *grin*

How did I miss this one? I didn't know you were even doing this project for some reason. I understand missing one entry, but four? Hmmmm. Anyway, what a cool project! If we head down the ancient history "road" this next year, I may want to do this one. . .

She's looking a little dried up. Very dry. I am glad you are not planning to eat her one day. (grins)

It's only been 3 weeks???? ;) Hmmmm, now wouldn't that be something to showcase for a unit celebration?

...very diligent with this project!! I probably would have forgotten about it! I am sure your kids are having a great time looking at it each time you bring it out for observation.

Oh wow, what a terrific job you guys have done with this! We've just begun using the SOTW 1 recently and I wasn't sure how many of the activities we'd do, as my dd is older (11) - but we might have to try this one....
