Our Homeschool Agenda ~ HM Assignment #2

Posted in Homeschool Memoirs

This week’s theme is about sharing your 2008-09 homeschool agendas and plans. Share the different curriculum you’re using. You can also include what age/grade you’re using it for, how long you’ve been using it, and why you like it
.

We have been using Sonlight since the very beginning starting with Pre K and I love it. It's strongly literature based, learning through living books and I guess you would say a classical education and the best part is that there are instructor guides for everything!! That is a very important thing for me because if I had to design all of our learning myself, we'd probably still be in the planning phase. LOL. They lay all of the subjects out in weekly chunks telling you what books to use, what pages to read, what questions to work on and so on, but that doesn't mean that we stick strictly to the schedule. I find that it actually helps me to be more creative since I always have something constant to fall back to after we take our many side trips to different learning adventures :) This year I have added much more Canadian content though because Sonlight is severely lacking in that department and we are adding in Apologia as well because it is just so darn fun to read. *grin*

So here's our plan so far. I may add more as we go along but this is the backbone of it :)

K ~ Grade 4

Bible
The Boys Bible (adds in fun facts & the gross and gory tidbits hidden in the verses)
Starting Strong Series (3 bible study books in one)

Language Arts
Explode the Code book 8
Sonlight ~ 4 LA program
in combination with
Rod & Staff's english 4 ~ Building With Diligence
A Reason For Handwriting Book C ~ Cursive
Sequential Spelling

History/Geography
Sonlight ~ 4 History program, American History Pt.2
My First History of Canada ~ Donalda Dickie
Our Home & Native Land: Explorers of Canada ~ Learning Smart Publishers
Our Home & Native Land: Canada Geography ~ Learning Smart Publishers
Canada & the World: Map Book 3 ~ Apple Press

Social Studies
Outlooks 4: Our Beginnings ~ Oxford University Press

Science
Sonlight ~ 4 Science Program
in combination with
Apologia's Exploring Creation Through Astronomy
Usborne Complete Book of the Microscope
(I splurged & bought a microscope the year *grin*)

Math

Complete Math Smart 4

Art/Nature Study/Electives
Apologia's Exploring Creation Through Botany
Nine Note Recorder Method
~We'll add in nature & art studies as we go along~
Rosetta Stone ~ German

L ~ Kindergarten

Bible

Children's Book of Virtues ~ William J. Bennet
Right Choices ~ Kenneth N. Taylor

Language Arts
Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons ~ Siegrfried Engelmann
Handwriting Without Tears ~ Letters & Numbers For Me
Developing the Early Learner: Books 1-4 ~ Simone Bibeau

History/Geography
Sonlight ~ K History Program, Intro to World Cultures

Social Studies
We'll follow along with big brother K

Science
Sonlight ~ K Science Program (learning about the world around us)
We'll join in science experiments with big brother K

Math
Singapore Earlybird Books A & B

Art/Nature Study/Electives
A Child's Book of Art ~ Lucy Micklethwait
Nine Note Recorder Method
~We'll add in art & nature studies as we go along~

Baby M
Well he's just going to soak up some learning this year through osmosis *grin*.

All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children. ~ Isaiah 54:13

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is doing this year!!
Blessings,

May this be your best year yet! And, I must admit, it sounds like the Bible you chose for your boys will be awesome.

~About Me~

Hello from Canada! I am a homeschooling mom to 3 very rambunctious children ages 10, 6 & 3 years old while holding down the fort as tug boat captain 'Dad' sails the seven seas *grin*. We're located on 40 acres in a tiny rural community in beautiful British Columbia and this is my quirky journal about our homeschool journey, running my home based business 'RosyUndPosy' making 'Eco Friendly Bags 4 Green Living', and everyday life home on the farm. Hope you enjoy your visit :)

Want to have a peak at what the weather looks like here today? Here's a cam showing the lovely scenic view looking east down Johnstone Strait past Helmcken & Hardwicke Islands.
