Fun Mixing Primary Colors

Posted in Art Appreciation

I picked up this really cute book at the library called Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. It's a fun little story about 3 mice that play in some paint pots and learn about mixing colors :)

It was perfect timing because I had also ran across a great way to learn about color theory over at Make & Takes using ziploc bags for mixing colors inside. A fabulous no mess idea!! So we gathered up our 3 primary colors: red, yellow and blue, a couple of ziploc bags and of course the camera :)

It turned out great. L smooshed the ziploc bags around to blend the two dots of paint and we ended up with a beautiful display of what each of the primary colors mixed together created.

Blue and red makes purple

and yellow and red of course creates orange :)

Now that we have learned what secondary colors can be made from the primary colors I think we'll move on to what tertiary colors can be created from them :) Fun!!

Blessings,

YOU are a blessing! We are studying primary colors and mixing colors and I just can't seem to bring out the paints with my two year old not wanting to "dig in". Now, I can do it with baggies. Thank you SO MUCH!!! Great idea.

We loved that book back when my older 2 were a bit younger. I should get it out for my younger ones again. We've always just mixed with colored water....I really should go the paint/shaving cream bags. I bet they'd like the sesory aspect of it.

I don't think I've ever seen paint used in a way that didn't get messy - neat idea! :-)

~About Me~

Hello from Canada! I am a homeschooling mom to 3 very rambunctious children ages 10, 6 & 3 years old while holding down the fort as tug boat captain 'Dad' sails the seven seas *grin*. We're located on 40 acres in a tiny rural community in beautiful British Columbia and this is my quirky journal about our homeschool journey, running my home based business 'RosyUndPosy' making 'Eco Friendly Bags 4 Green Living', and everyday life home on the farm. Hope you enjoy your visit :)
