Great Spelling Website & It's FREE!
Posted in Educational websites
I just ran across a really great site called SpellingCity.com over at Pioneer Woman's blog and spent the last half hour playing around with it and I am really impressed! Right away when you hit their homepage it lets you enter in your child's spelling words and from there you can let it test them. The program actually 'says' the word out loud for them and there is also the option of having the word used in a sentence. Once the test is complete they then have the option to have it teach them any misspelled words or use all of them in some fun learning games :) The beauty of this site is that it is completely FREE and you can create a free teacher's account where you can create your own word lists and save them so that each time you use the site your word lists are ready to go. If you don't have lists that you are using for spelling already there is also a handy page just chock full of spelling lists for grades 1-7 that you can use and there's even a forum if you want to ask for spelling help :)
UPDATE: We have now been using this site for a couple of weeks and it is a big hit with K! He no longer whines about spelling tests and happily types away at the keyboard :) There is just something more fun about typing instead of handwriting *grin*. I love that I can let him go at it by himself now and can carry on teaching L instead of spending an hour coaxing him into completing each word list! A bonus for both of us :)
Go check it out! You won't be disappointed.

I've looked at that site before - it *is* pretty cool. We've tried a few formal spelling programs (like megawords) and they didn't work very well....might give this a try!

~About Me~
Hello from Canada! I am a homeschooling mom to 3 very rambunctious children ages 10, 6 & 3 years old while holding down the fort as tug boat captain 'Dad' sails the seven seas *grin*. We're located on 40 acres in a tiny rural community in beautiful British Columbia and this is my quirky journal about our homeschool journey, running my home based business 'RosyUndPosy' making 'Eco Friendly Bags 4 Green Living', and everyday life home on the farm. Hope you enjoy your visit :)

Want to have a peak at what the weather looks like here today? Here's a cam showing the lovely scenic view looking east down Johnstone Strait past Helmcken & Hardwicke Islands.

And this one is looking north across Johnstone Strait towards Hardwicke Island. Hit the refresh button on your browser to update the picture and make sure you stop by during daylight hours :)
