Blount Home Education Association

• Apr. 5, 2007 - BHEA's Annual Homeschooling 101

When: Saturday, April 14, 12-2 p.m.
Where: Blount County Public Library's Dorothy Herron Rooms
What: This free program will present the basics of home education, including getting started, registering, choosing curriculum, socialization concerns, and much more.  Curriculum tables will also be set up so that participants can examine various types of curricula.  This seminar is free and open to the public.

BHEA MEMBERS:
We still need members to help by providing "Curriculum Share" tables. This is a popular part of Homeschooling 101, as it gives new and current homeschoolers a chance to get a hands-on look at various curricula. Parents will often just want to see a particular book, or they may have questions to ask about how you incorporate a text into your schedule.

All  you need to do is bring a selection of your favorite homeschooling materials to set up on a table and be willing to answers questions. You won't be giving a speech; it's a very casual "browsing" environment. It doesn't matter whether you use a textbook approach or are completely eclectic; we need a variety of tables to assure people that there are a variety of approaches to homeschooling.  The Show-and-Tell session will begin about 1 p.m. and will end promptly at 2 p.m.

Be sure to tell any friends who are considering homeschooling about Homeschooling 101. This is a valuable introduction to homeschooling. We'll be covering homeschooling laws, registration, and approaches in our introductory session from 12-1 p.m. Participants will receive several excellent hand-outs and have a variety of catalogs available to take home to peruse. Please note that current homeschoolers are welcome to attend, too! We will have several members available for one-on-one questions during the second half of the program.

If you would be willing to help out with a Curriculum Share table or have questions about Homeschooling 101, please contact Sarah Small at shc.small@gmail.com .
