• Jun. 6, 2006 - Natural Expression Summer Art Classes

Summer is a time for me to be able to do "messy" or "big" things that are difficult to travel from place to place with. None of these projects will fit neatly in a folder as my school year projects tend to do. But included with the class will be a booklet containing artists and their works we have studied and a certificate for participating in my summer classes. My classes consist of a hands on approach based on the studies of artists and their related art history. Cost of the weekly one and a half hour class is $8.

Natural Expression Summer Art Class Schedule
June 6&7 Mosaic Turtle (clay and tiles) - Aztec Craftsmen
June 13&14 Multicolored Duck (acrylic paints) -Sir Stanley Spencer
June 27&28 Animal Flags (Felt) - Fante Flag Makers
July 5 Greek Pots (clay/acrylic) -Exekias
July 11&12 Mythical Creatures (collage) -Antonio del Pollaiuolo
July 18&19 Funny Face (watercolor) -Pablo Picasso

Right now, classes are located at Broadway United Methodist Church.

STREAM SWIMMING (icy cold!)
Townsend 'Y' - take Hwy 321 south (the signs will say 321 N) to Maryville and then to Townsend. Continue through Townsend on 321 and stay on that road (even though 321 turns off to the left going to Pigeon Forge). The road you're on becomes Hwy 73. After a few campgrounds on the left on the stream, you come to an intersection called 'The Y' because the road forks left (to Gatlinburg) or the right (to Cades Cove loop), there is a great little swimming hole on the left (you may have to turn back around to find a space in the small parking lot just before that intersection). No restrooms. Can be bumper-to-bumper traffic on weekends.
METCALF BOTTOMS- another great swimming hole in the Smokies. Follow the above directions but turn off on 321 toward Pigeon Forge. Take Lyon Springs Rd. to the right and follow this. Eventually you'll come to Metcalf Bottoms.
