Spring Break Blahs

It is a little hard to imagine, when you take time to think about it, that life could be going on so normally for people like myself not very far from where the tradgedy I posted about yesterday took place, knowing that mother must be beside herself with grief... It makes my own problems seem so trivial in comparison.

But for us, things are very calm and peaceful. We're taking a "Spring Break" this year. I rarely take any breaks at all, for the simple reason that when we don't follow our school schedule, the kids hang around and bicker with each other. Well, that's pretty much what's going on right now. I was (only half) joking with my mom on the phone this morning when I said, "That's it. We're never taking vacation again." So I have the rest of the week of not quite knowing what to do with myself, and the kids whining about why they can't play video games if it isn't a school day. EEEEEKKK!

Since our pasture fence is down, we have a goat loose, and because of that I can't leave the driveway gate open, or the goat will wander over to the neighbor's and ruin their garden. It's frustrating, because I'm expecting UPS and they won't open gates.... Now what?

Isn't that a mundane, trivial problem to have? (See paragraph #1.)

Yes, but these are the things life is made of. I'm praying for that poor woman, too. Incredibly sad.

Loose goat issues: For the time being, although tying out goats is problematic, you might try this: Put an old dog collar (not a choker chain, but a loose canvas collar) and two carribiners (those clippy, D-shaped thingys), a long piece of rope or cable and a short piece of rope. Make a "clothes line" about 4 to 6 feet from the ground between two trees where there is little chance of the poor darling getting tangled and where you won't strangle yourself on accident. Cut your short piece of rope long enough to reach from the line (rope or cable) to the goat's collar if she were lying down -- but not long enough for the darling to tangle herself up...which she will do if she has even an inch extra. Put the clippy-thingys on each end and clip one end over the "clothes line". Viola! Goat run. That way you can keep her "contained" when you need to. Better to let her run, but this will keep UPS happy! Good luck! Oh, and make sure she has water handy (duh) an send a kiddo out to check on her once in a while to make sure she hasn't gotten herself all tied in knots. Character building for the kids! ;^)

Blessings!
