Jan. 3, 2007 - Happy New Year

Posted in Books

I just had a wonderful holiday season.  We took each day and enjoyed it.  My husband even had off on Christmas Eve (the frist since we got married)  I really took the chance to enjoy my family.  I look forward to the new year and all that Christ will do in and through me.  I look back at the past year and I am thankful for all the blessings.

Well,  I said I enjoyed the holidays, my husband and family but did I mention that I would snuggle up every night and read.  I love to read and my perfect day is a day I can go to the beach and read all day.  So I thought I would give you my NEW YEAR BOOK REVIEW.  These are all the books I read in December.

How to say No and live to tell about it

By Mary M. Byers

The sub title is "A woman's guide to guilt-free decisions"  I am the YES woman.  If you want it done just ask me.  I am also run down and exhasted.  This book helped me come up with a gameplan to say no.  She gives you step by step examples to help you say no.  My favorite part was the point she made that you saying yes to something the Lord has not called you to, takes that opertunity for someone he is calling!!  We should leave out yeses for things we love and have a passion about.  God gives us gifts in order that we use them for his glory.  The book contained great thought throughout.

Beautiful In God's Eyes

By Elizabeth George

What a wonderful walk throught the life of the Provbers 31 woman.  She gives us tangable ideas for walking in the footsteps of this Godly woman.  She also addes great notes on the background of the Hebrew womans life from her trip to Isreal.  I book for us all to read as we strive to be the women that God wants us to be.

The Ultimate Gift

By Jim Stovall

My mother in law gave me this book.  I read it New Years day (very short).  What a great book for new years.  Shows you what is really improtant and is great for relizing our goals for the year ahead.

Last Light

By Terri Blackstock

Oh I am so excited to have found this author.  She has such a captivating style and her stories keep you up late at night .  This is the first book in a new series of hers.  This book leads you through the question "what would you do if everything electical stopped working?" - and how the characters cope and put there relience on God.  Excellent!!!!

Cape Refuge

By Terri Blackstock

When I finished the Last Ligth I wen out to buy the next in the series.  My mom had already gotten it so I pick up another of her books.  This is the first in the Cape Refuge series.  A basic " who done it " mystrey with God's providence wound throughout.  The question "where is God when bad things happen to his people?"  Loved this to.   I am excited to read others in Terri Blackstocks collection.

For my devotionals I am reading through 3 of Sheri Rose Shepherd books

Prayers to my King

Beautiful prayer for Christ our "King"

My Prince Will Come

Looking to the Return of the King "my King"

His Princess

Love letters from "MY KING" great to know you are a princess of a King.  I love to hear His words to me everyday, but mostly on the days that I don't feel like a good wife, mother, teacher much less a  princess.

Enjoy the Blessing of being able to read.  Remember if your kids see you reading they will read too.

Oct. 6, 2006 - Angel's Book

Posted in Books

This is a post that I promised my oldest I would post today.  She has written a book (which is quite good for an eight year old) and painted pictures to go with.  She want to share this with my fiends and family. So here it is.  Did I tell you I am such a proud Mamma today!!!!

Here is Angel the Author

The Ugly Caterpillar

By Angel

Not a True Story

There was an ugly caterpillar. It always

was on a leaf. All day that winter he

watched the birds fly south from the

 winter.

Everyday he went to the pond and

looked at himself. “oh how ugly I am”

he said to the turtle. You do not look as

you think, you will someday be a

butterfly.

That night the caterpillar made a

 chrysalis.

In the morning a snake tried to eat the

chrysalis. Jane got a stick and hit the

snake.

The next morning the chrysalis

opened.

A pretty butterfly flew to the pond and saw himself in the pond.

The turtle said I told you that you would

 be a butterfly.

The Butterfly flew South.

I thought this was so great.

Book Worm Wednesday

My books that I read last week.

The Velveteen Mommy

By Jenn Coucette

This is a very light but encouraging book.  Such a nice read.  For all mothers that feel a little worn around the ears.

Before you Meet Prince Charming

by Sarah Mally

I am reading this before I give it to my girls in a few years.  It is recomended for aged 12 and up.  The book encourages young girls to let the Lord take control of  their life.  In doing this, to follow His leading when it comes to their future husband.  It takes a wonderful Biblical view of gaurding your heart and your mind, and standing seperate from the world on the whole dating issue.  I am excited to give this to my girls and pray that their choices will be God led.  A must read for any parent who wants and new and Godly outlook on the dating scene.

For Men Only

by Shaunti Feldhahn!

So Book Worm Wednesday.

I love to read and usually read a book a week (I am a speed reader)  I have so many book and love getting new ones.  I was going to join Fall in to Reading (to many books to list)but decided to just post the books as I am reading and what I think. I will be posting books I am reading for myself and books I am reading to the kids. So on with the show.

My Book of the Week is Redeeming Halloween

This is a very good read so far.  We as a family do not celebrate Halloween, which we will not change.  The book discusses the two options of not celebrating and celebrating.  They have great ideas to make your decision (whatever that may be) have a God driven focus.  A worthwhile read.

Books I am reading to Kids (ANGEL, Cat is away for a month with my parents)

How You Are Changing

This is #3 in the Learning About Sex series.  Very detailed, layes everything out in a way that is not uncomfortable for either child or parent.  (My husband said he is glad he is not reading it to the girls)  They do have a lot of questions but that is a good thing and it gives you the steps to be open and insure that the Godly prespective of God's gift of Sex is the focus.

Since Cat is away it is giving my a lot of extra time with Angel so we are doing a special devotional that is suppose to last 16 weeks.  We are doing 1 week a day.

Growing Little Women

The joy of sharing the Word of God with your children is an experence that we all treasure.  This book gives you an outline inwhich this can be done.  It allows you to search the Scripture together, participate in some great activities and let your daughter know how special she is to you and most importantly to GOD.
